  • Top 5 Favorite Beach Destinations for the Month of May

There might be no association between ‘May’ and ‘beach vacation’ in a traveler’s mind, but we all know that the best traveling implies a certain degree of craziness and a little bit of thinking out of the box.

Deciding to go for a beach vacation during the month of May can, however, result in several advantages: you have a chance to avoid the summer crowds, take advantage of extra season prices and, in many cases, stay away from summer’s unbearable heat. This being said, here are those precious beaches that make an ideal destination for the month of May:

    Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (USA)

If you want to get the best of one of America’s most famous beaches without having to deal with crowdedness and useless stress, then May might be just the right time to visit Myrtle Beach. This is when you’ll be able to enjoy all the attractions around the Grand Strand without waiting in lines, take undisturbed walks along Myrtle Beach’s tenths of miles of white sand beaches and, most of all, participate at the month’s biggest event – The Beach Bike Week. May is when bikers all over the east coasts are gathering to Myrtle Beach to enroll in the annual ‘poker run’, the most anticipated of the motorbike-centered events and races that will take place between May 7 and May 16, 2010.

Little Saint Simon Islands, Georgia (USA)

May is the month when the feverous state of Georgia receives the ideal quantity of sun. Georgia’s beaches along the Atlantic get suddenly populated by an active crowd of bird watching, nature loving folks, here to beat the crowds and make the most out of Georgia’s splendid nature. If you are one of those many victims of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic horror, don’t back of: Georgia’s beaches are now perfect for solitary walks, interminable photo sessions and shell picking excursions.

    Saint Croix, Virgin Islands (USA)

The Island of Saint Croix can be easily considered as America’s snorkeling paradise. Here is where Buck Island Reef National Monument expects its visitors with hundreds of meters of underwater trails, which snorkelers can follow in their search for exotic fish and rare sea creatures. The month of May is also the time when Saint Croix becomes the host of the famous Ironman Triathlon, where athletes and amateurs alike are free to measure their skills at swimming, running and biking through the island’s magnificent scenery.

    Limassol, Cyprus

You don’t necessarily have to be a history buff in order to instantly recognize Cyprus inestimable value when it comes to archaeological sites and medieval buildings. With its famous archaeological museum, huge waterfront park and numerous festivals, the city of Limassol – Cyprus’s second largest -,  makes an inspired choice for the month of May. If you also consider Limassol’s numerous beaches and the Yermasogeia Flower Festival, you’ve got all the ingredients of a first-class early vacation.

    Rio Caribe, Venezuela

With its typical Venezuelan warmth and lovely colonial architecture, the town of Rio Caribe is just the perfect retreat. With abundant sea food, a cosmopolitan population and a rich cocoa culture, Rio Caribe is the very essence of exoticism. Not to mention that this small fisher’s community is also the entrance gate towards Venezuela’s top rated beaches, like Playa Median, or Palya Pui Pui.
