Rainy weather can sometimes completely ruin a holiday, especially if you were planning on some serious sightseeing. Sometimes, all you can do to avoid this is to check the weather forecast and plan your holiday according to the whims of the weather.
But if you’re in no mood for any compromises, here’s what you can do: visit a place where it’s almost 100% sure that it won’t rain! Here are the top 10 driest places places on earth.
1. Callao, Peru
Callao is the largest and most important port city in the country, and rather industrial, but not a bad at all if you want to see something than Lima’s city center. Average rainfall? 12.191mm per year.
2. Aoulef, Algeria
This little town in central Algeria is the driest place in an already dry country, and in addition to being very dry, it is also very hot (it is in the middle of the desert, after all). Average rainfall: 12.19mm per year.
3. Pelican Point, Namibia
Pelican Point, in the city of Walvis Bay, is supposedly the driest place in that region, but that doesn’t stop the surfers from catching some pretty good waves.
4. Iquique, Chile

The charming port city of Chile has some nice beaches lined with palm trees, and lots of historical sites and shopping places. The average rainfall is about 5 mm per year.
5. Wadi Hafa, Sudan
Wadi Hafa is a nice little town on the shores of Lake Nasser, surrounded by the dunes of the Nubian Desert. There are some good shops and restaurants in the city, and it’s a pleasant stop on your way to other destinations.
6. Luxor, Egypt
Luxor is one of the must-see destinations in Egypt,with all its temples and ancient tombs. The weather is very dry and hot, however, but that’s a small price to pay for all those amazing attractions.
7. Al Jawf, Lybia
Although the city of Al Jawf lies in one of the most irrigated oases in the Sahara Desert, the average rainfall in the area is dismally low, less than one inch per year.
8. Arica, Chile

Arica is the driest city on the planet, at least for now, but besides that, it is a very nice tourist destination, with lots of things to do and to see (especially some great beaches).
9. Aswan, Egypt
A small but important destination, Aswan has plenty of attractions, both historical and more modern. The stone used to build the pyramids came from Aswan, and there are very interesting ancient tombs that are absolutely must-sees.

This hot, busy and rather chaotic city is also very, very dry, but it is quite enjoyable. Besides, it’s only a couple of hours away from Nazca, and there are some great sand dunes where you can practice sandboarding near the city.
