papillon in Travel Planning | 1 COMMENTThe weirdest hotels of 2010 part 2
We’ve delighted you once before with a list of some mind-boggling hotels, but the fun is not over yet! It’s hard to believe that hotel owners can be so creative, but in fact there are enough strange hotels in the world to fill the pages of an entire book. When someone checks into a hotel, they usually expect a regular room in a regular building, with all the necessities for a night of sleep.
But have you ever imagined what it would be like to have a room in a wine casket, a refurbished plane or a room where the laws of gravity seem to be completely disregarded? Here’s the second part of our list of the weirdest hotels of 2010.
Propeller Island City Lodge, Berlin, Germany
Propeller Island City Lodge has 30 rooms in total, and each of them looks different than the other. So far, there’s nothing special about it, there are other hotels that have pulled this trick. However, the rooms of the Propeller Island City Lodge are so eccentric that you will probably have dreams (or nightmares) about them for days on end. Room number 3’s bed is shaped like a medieval castle, and the furniture looks like brightly painted buildings.
The bed in the rather creepy looking room no. 12 is suspended at 1.6 m above the floor with ropes, and in room no. 23 the furniture is glued to the ceiling, while you will sleep in comfortable boxes under the floorboards. More details here: http://www.propeller-island.com/
Hotel De Vrouwe Van Stavoren, Stavoren, Netherlands
Hotel De Vrouwe Van Stavoren is definitely one of the most original place where you can stay. The rooms of this hotel are gigantic wine barrels that used to belong to a Swiss chateau. The rounded wooden walls of the rooms create a very cozy feeling, and it will seem like you are in the cabin of a ship (except that you’ll never get seasick here).
The rooms are equipped with two narrow beds and a small sitting area, just enough for two people visiting the quaint little port town of Stavoren. More about the hotel here: http://www.hotel-vrouwevanstavoren.nl/

At the first glance, Hotel Costa Verde seems pretty regular, but wait until you see their newest rooms: the Boeing 727 fuselage suites. These two rooms were set up in the fuselage of a Boeing 727 that was salvaged from the San Jose airport plane graveyard.
From afar, the plane looks like it crashed into the Costa Rican jungle, but it is securely mounted on a concrete pillar. The rooms are very nicely furnished with hand-made wooden furniture, and there’s a terrace where you can relax in the evening. More details here: http://www.costaverde.com/727.html
