    Turkey

    Turkey

Turkey is like a dream come true for history buffs, who can lose themselves in stories of battles both real and legendary, ancient ruins, empires and conquests. And it is also a place where a traveler can unwind, laze around on a beach or in a hammam, waste entire afternoons browsing through bazaars or pampering their stomachs with delicious foods.

Turkey is a great place to indulge in life’s simple pleasures, and even spending some time in one of the most picturesque destinations in Turkey can make your day. So pack your map, camera and other traveler gear, and prepare to discover one of the most interesting countries in the world.

    Cappadocia

If the moon were fit for human life, then the lunar settlements might very well look like Cappadocia, a place that is often described as having a moon-like landscape. Cappadocia’s underground cities, dwellings carved into rock, cave-like churches and surreal landscape are nothing less then stunning.

There are several places of interest in Cappadocia: Göreme with its ‘fairy chimneys’, Nevhesir and its cave dwellings and Uçhisar with its castle carved in rock.

    Imbros

Imbros is the largest of Turkey’s islands, but it has less than 10.000 permanent residents. There’s a small Greek community on the island, the last of the ethnic Greeks who have inhabited the island since ancient times. There are many deserted Greek villages with beautiful vistas and sometimes citadels: Bademli, Kaleköy, Zeytinli, or Dereköy.

    Ayvalik

Ayvalik in the Northern Aegean is a lively little city with much to see, but its main attractions are the nicely preserved old Ayvalik houses built in the neo-classical style.

Çaml?k, a suburb in the southern parts of the town has some magnificent neo-classical manors surrounded by woods. If you have time, take a trip to the nearby Ayvalik Islands, an island group with lots of wildlife and beautiful small beaches.

    Mardin

Mardin is an architectural gem that owes its fame to its Islamic heritage (it used to be the capital of the Artuqids in the Middle Ages). The town is perched on a hill and consists of heavily decorated stone houses arranged in terraces. The citadel is also fascinating, but it is closed to both locals and visitors, but you can see it from the twisty alleys of the old city.

    Ephesus

Ephesus is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Turkey thanks to its archaeological remains daring back to Greek and Roman times. One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Artemis, was located in Ephesus.

The carefully reconstructed Library of Celsus is another impressive site, but in addition to these two, there are several other fascinating things to see in Ephesus. The ruins can be easily visited on foot on your own or as part of a guided tour.
