The stunning stone heads scattered all over Rapa Nui, better known as Easter Island, have puzzled historians for a long time. The stone faces represent the ancestors of the people who carved them between the 12th and 15th centuries, but that’s pretty much all that’s known for certain about them.
How they were carved and transported from a fairly large distance is still a matter of speculation.
