    Manila

There are over 7000 islands in the Philippines, which means that there are so many great travel destinations in this interesting island nation that most people hardly know where to begin.

With so  many choices, deciding which place to visit first can be a chore, especially if you’re on your first visit to the Philippines. So if you’re in doubt, here’s a list of tips that can help you choose your destinations wisely – here are the best travel destinations in the Philippines.

    Banaue, Luzon

The tiny town of Banaue on Luzon island is famous for the countless rice paddies surrounding it. Most of the landscape surrounding the town was shaped into terraced rice fields, which have earned the title of Unesco World Heritage Site.

The terraces have been in use for the past 2000 years, and they cover the slopes of the valley for several miles.

    Atulayan Island, Camarines Sur

Atulayan Island looks like something out of a Hollywood film- it is so idyllically pretty that you can barely believe that such a place would exist. You can travel to Atulayan by boat from Nato Beach, and it only takes about half an hour to get there. The island’s shores are covered in white sand, the water is clear and you can see all sorts of colorful fish swimming near the beach.

    Vigan, Luzon

If you are interested in colonial architecture, the town of Luzon should be very high on your to-visit list. It is a World Heritage Site, so naturally, there are plenty of things to see here. The main draw of the town is the architecture itself – you can wander aimlessly around the narrow streets without getting bored of it.

It’s a long journey from Manila to Vigan (about 8 hours by bus), but since you get to see some really picturesque places on the way, it is really worth the effort.

    Davao, Mindanao Island

Davao is one of the largest cities in the world in terms of area, and also known for its endless supplies of durian, which is alternately called the most delicious and the most disgusting fruit in the world. The city is very pleasant, it has several large parks, quite a few religious sites and it is located near the highest mountain in the Philippines.

    Donsol, Luzon

Donsol is one of the best places on the planet to watch whale-sharks, and during whale-shark season (that is, from December to May), the resorts in and around the town are packed with tourists.

You can watch the whale-sharks from the shores, you can swim with them (there are several travel agencies in the town that can help you) or you can go on a scuba diving tour.

You have lots of options to choose when traveling at the Philippines. That is why I loved to be back there next summer vacation.
