The best tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia is a great destination to visit regardless of what you’re looking for in a holiday: culture, history or fun, and as expected, the country’s capital is the cherry on top of this amazing destination. Kuala Lumpur is a huge city that has so much to show off that you find something new to see every time to visit it, and luckily, many of the best attractions in the city are free.
Kuala Lumpur is has become so much more than a ‘muddy estuary’ (which is what the name of the city means, and which was fitting back in the days when it was a tiny tin-mining village) – a huge, bustling metropolis. Here are some of the best tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur, for those who are visiting this great city.
Chinatown
KL started out as a small Chinese village, and the countless sky scrapers haven’t buried yet the city’s heritage. Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is bustling, lively and it never sleeps, and it is the best place for hunting for bargains and novelty items. At night, the main street of Chinatown, Petaling Street, turns into a night market filled with stalls selling food, Chinese medicine and all sorts of items.
Petronas Twin Towers
The Petronas towers might not be the tallest building in the world anymore, but it remains one of the most impressive structures ever built.
The bridge linking the two towers is called the Skybridge, it is the highest suspended bridge in the world, and it is the best place for a bird’s eye view of the sprawling city, especially after dark.
Batu Caves
Possible the most popular attraction in this modern city is partially natural: a limestone hill with three large caves and several smaller ones. The main caves house beautiful golden statues of gods and mythical figures, as well as amazing limestone formations. The Cathedral Cave shelters several very important Hindu shrines which are visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
Thean Hou Temple
KL has lots of places of worship, and Thean Hou is one of the most impressive, as far as temples are concerned. The Buddhist temple is perched on a hill and it can only be described as grandiose.
The building is an interesting mix of modern and traditional architecture. In addition to temple services, it also offers recreational activities like Tai Chi or Wushu classes.

Kuala Lumpur is pretty colorful any time of the day, anywhere, but there’s no place more colorful in the city than the Butterfly Park. Learn about the life cycles of the insects but if you’d rather just stare at the burst of color of the butterfly wings, you can do that too, especially since there are over 120 species of butterflies in the park.
