  • The best summer music festivals in Europe

Summer is the season for beach-going, but also the season of music festivals, especially in Europe where people have to take fully advantage of those 3-4 months of hot weather and sun. But actually, be it rain or shine, music festivals are a must for every self-respecting music enthusiast who prefers the rush and crowds of live concerts to listening music on a couch.

From rock to pop and everything in between, there is a festival this summer for everyone, so here the best summer music festivals in Europe.

    Glastonbury, UK

Glastonbury is probably one of the most famous festivals in Europe, and it takes place every year in the last weekend of June. Glastonbury is a contemporary music festival with top performers from all over the world, but it also features theater, dance, cabaret and other acts.
It is organized splat in the middle of the British countryside, a couple of miles from the town of Glastonbury, and no amount of bad weather (as it happened a few times) can ruin the fun of it.

Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, Nuremberg, Germany

This two festivals taking place one in Nuremberg and the other in Nurburgring racetrack are usually considered as one and the same, and they also have the same line-up with some minor exceptions. Taken together, these two simultaneous events are one the biggest music festivals in the world, and they feature the best of rock music, plus all sorts of other performances.

    Sziget Festival, Budapest, Hungary

This exciting annual festival takes place in August on Obudai Island, a green little island in the middle of the Danube. As one of the largest festivals in Europe, it has huge attendance, and about half of the people coming to it are from outside Hungary.

All sorts of genres are performed at the festival, ranging from blues and jazz to hard rock. There’s great music, great food and various activities.

    Roskilde Festival, Roskilde, Denmark

Since the 70’s, this is one of the best music festivals on the continent, and it has mainstream as well as lesser known acts. Staying on the huge campsite is half the fun at this festival, and there are all sorts of fun (and most of the time crazy) activities like a nude run. In addition to around200 bands, there is a strong focus on art-related activities.

    Paleo Festival, Nyon, Switzerland

Paleo Festival is the second largest in Europe, and it draws a couple of million visitors and a about 2500 artists every year at the end of July.

The location can be accessed only on foot or a special narrow gauge railway, but that has never stopped the crowds.
