  • Cool Vacation Spots Right Outside the Border

The fact that the United States are only bordered by two countries doesn’t necessarily makes things easier: sometimes it is quite difficult to decide between the hot and exotic Mexico and the cold and outdoorsy Canada. One thing is for sure: they are both worthy of at least one vacation. Just in case you want to play it safe and only put one foot over the border, both counties have dozens of resorts that are only a few miles outside the Unites States.

This way, you won’t suffer any dramatic change of scenery, and you can still get a taste of another culture, within your own terms. It’s not like you will freak out and rush back to the States any second, but these kind of places can look familiar and different in the same time.  Today we give you five of the best right outside the border American resorts:

    Rocky Point, Mexico

Playa Bonita (which can be translated as ‘beautiful beach’), located at approximately 1 hour drive from the Arizona-Mexico border, represents one of the most popular beaches at the Gulf of Mexico. Playa Bonita is however only one of the numerous beaches surrounding the town of Rocky Point (or Puerto Penasco), much appreciated for its youthful atmosphere, pleasant climate and pocket-friendly facilities.

    White Rock, Canada

Located in the close vicinity of Vancouver and Mount Baker (Washington), White Rock makes a smooth tradition between the rainy state of Washington and the pleasant climate of British Columbia (it is said about this quaint resort that it has the sunniest weather on the northern coast). What make White Rock particularly attracting are the interminable pier, numerous bicycle trails and highly entertaining Spirit of the Sea Festival, taking place every year in August.

    Fernie, Canada

If you are curios to get a taste of British Columbia’s Rockies, than a great place to start would be Fernie Alpine Resort, highly regarded by skiers all over the continent for its abundant snow. Despite the fact that the powdery snow represents Fernie’s main asset, this stylish resort is far from deserted during summer. As soon as summer arrives, the melting snow makes room for all kinds of outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, mountain biking or even golf, not to mention Fernie’s old town charm.

    Rosarito, Mexico

Within small distance form the controversial Tijuana, Rosarito Beach is just a quiet, isolated residential area, in which more than a third of the inhabitants are actually US citizens. Officially recognized as one of the best beaches on the West Coast, Rosarito can satisfy both the surfer looking for tremendous waves and the romantic couple in search of solitary walks. Not far from Rosario you will find the city of Ensenada, home to magnificent restaurants, tons of duty-free shops and some of the best locally-produced Californian wines.

    Rossland, Canada

Another highly treasured resort that is part of British Columbia’s inventory is represented by Rossland,  the owner of such distinctions as ‘trail of the year’ or National Geographic’s top 10 ‘adventure towns’. You don’t even have to be an experienced biker or a daring hiker in order to be able to enjoy Rossland’s magnificent views: everywhere you look, you’ll see just nothing but the green spines of the surrounding mountains and miles and miles of unrestrained wildness.
