If you want to spend Christmas in stately country houses in the UK, you don’t have to go as far as to rent a castle. There are tours available for history or architecture buffs who would like to go around the British countryside, visiting some of the oldest and most magnificent noble homes.
Seeing the likes of Blenheim Palace, Chatsworth House and Shugborough Hall in all their festive glory is quite an entertainment.
Cruise on the Danube
A cruise on the beautiful Danube will ensure that you have a white Christmas touring several of the most interesting cities of the old world. You can find lots of week-long cruises for the holiday season that will allow you to see a variety of Christmas markets (Vienna, one of the capitals on the Danube, has a famous Christmas market), and to see picturesque cities and towns in all their splendor.

The ancient Inca did not celebrate Christmas, but that doesn’t have to stop travelers from seeing the ancient Inca capital in the holiday season. While the ruins will be in their regular state of magnificence, modern Peru does celebrate Christmas, and you can attend mass or take part in some of the local Christmas customs.

Spending the festive season in Jordan is an opportunity to see some of the most incredible sights of the country relatively free of crowds. Visit the rose city of Petra, the Dead Sea, or the magical Wadi Rum, the valley of the moon. Christmas is a very important holiday in Russia, where the majority of the population is Orthodox Christian and so this particular holiday is celebrated with much pomp and circumstance.
