    Jamaica

Summer is the perfect season for holidays, and a summer without a holiday is a summer that has not been exploited fully. If you’re worried about your budget, you still shouldn’t give up your summer holiday, because there are a lot of destinations that don’t require you to spend an inordinate amount of money.

Fun on a budget is possible, especially in summer, when there are tons of deals and offers for travelers. So if you want some tips on which places are budget-friendly this summer, here’s a list of budget travel destinations for summer 2011.

    New York

Although taking a bite out of the Big Apple can sometimes be a bit taxing for your wallet, this summer there are plenty of deals for airfare and hotels to ease the financial strain of the trip.

Besides, New York has no shortage of budget eats, and as for attractions, many of them are free or not very expensive. Plus, in summer there are several free events and festivals that you can attend.

    Costa Rica

For many tourists, summer is not the best season for visiting Costa Rica, since late spring through autumn is the country’s wet season. However, if you don’t mind the occasional tropical rain, you can benefit from all sorts of deals and reduced rates in the off season. The lack of crowds and the reasonable prices are worth a few showers, and you can even stay for cheap at places that would be a lot more expensive in season.

    Dublin, Ireland

Ireland’s economic situation is pretty bad nowadays, but every cloud has a silver lining, at least for potential tourists, because prices are lower. Exchange rates are particularly good, and there are lots of restaurant (even Michelin starred ones) which are surprisingly affordable.

Plus, the country itself is one big tourist attraction, and you can easily spend weeks on end just driving and marveling at the Irish countryside.

    Shanghai, China

This year, Shanghai’s infrastructure has undergone some huge improvements, which make it easy to navigate even for those who don’t speak Chinese. Plus, over 100 new hotels opened in the city last year, and room rates fell tremendously, so it’s not difficult to find affordable accommodation.

    Jamaica

If you want to go to the Caribbean, Jamaica is usually the most affordable option, with reasonable hotel rates and plenty of airfare deals. This summer, Jamaica is especially recommended for budget travelers, since a new international airport opened recently, and there’s a boom in holiday resorts, each of them competing for guests.

Countries in Southeast Asia are also good destinations for the budget traveler. Favorable exchange rate makes your money go a long way, especially if you come from US or Europe. I do disagree with you about New York; it’s a pretty expensive place.

The other places you mentioned, however, are affordable. Dublin rocks!
