Traveling alone can be a blessing and a curse, but if you know how to make the best of both, chances are that you’ll be enjoying the best trip of your life. When you go off on your own to a distant place, it can get lonely and boring, especially if there are long hours of traveling involved.
However, once you get to your destination, you are free to do whatever you want, visit the sights that really interest you and enjoy your own company for a while. And if the destination is suitably interesting, traveling solo can be a really great adventure that you can later boast off to your friends and family. Here are the best travel destinations for the solo traveler.
New Zealand
Ask solo travelers about their experience in New Zealand, and most of them will tell you that they didn’t want to board the plane to go back home. New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world that is uniformly beautiful whichever corner of it you’re visiting. Kiwis are notoriously nice to visitors, and you won’t have trouble making friends with locals or other travelers you might meet, especially in hostels.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
If you’re a solo traveler, you have to pay extra attention to your safety. Like many Western European cities, Amsterdam is quite safe, it has very good public transport systems, and English is spoken by many of the inhabitants. Although Amsterdam is infamously libertine, there are other things to do in the city as well, if you’re not tempted by the ‘conventional’ attractions of Amsterdam.
Ireland
Ireland is small enough, so you can cram in a lot of sightseeing in a couple of weeks, and interesting enough to keep you busy at all times. Amazing attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castles and much more will make you glad that you’re visiting alone (because there are too many decisions to make about where to go first, so you can decide everything yourself). Besides, if you want some company, just head into any old pub, and the locals will be glad to chat with you.
India
Backpacking through India has become fashionable lately, but traveling to India is definitely not for the squeamish or the faint of heart. There will be a lot of crowds and a lot of poverty stricken areas, but if you can look past all that, there are so many amazing places in India. It is quite safe, diverse and utterly beautiful, with friendly people – it is definitely one of the best travel destinations for the solo traveler.

If you want be sure to learn something on your trip, Antigua has more language schools than any other city in South America. Spending a few weeks learning Spanish in Antigua is a great opportunity to visit all the wonderful Mayan ruins, hike, hang out with the locals or with other travelers you meet.

I would love to go to these places solo and feel the peace but with family, work and all, it would be fun to bring them too. Bond with them with all the beauty of these places.
