With its sunny yet temperate weather, exciting attractions and beautiful beaches, San Diego is an ideal spot for a summertime vacation.

Whether you’re escaping from a more humid part of the country, trying to get closer to a sandy beach or are simply a local looking for some fun new activities to make Summer 2013 a memorable one, any of the following things to do in San Diego are great options to add to an itinerary.

Go on a Hornblower Harbor Cruise

San Diego’s coastal beauty is one of its greatest draws, and what better way to explore the renowned San Diego Harbor than on a Hornblower Harbor Cruise? These relaxing San Diego cruises are a wonderful way to spend a serene afternoon traveling through San Diego’s waterways, snapping photos and sipping some champagne.

Reserve a stay at L’Auberge Del Mar

Nothing beats having gorgeous ocean waters a few feet away in the summertime, and many San Diego hotels offer just that. Paradise waits at the fantastic L’Auberge Del Mar – the epitome of seaside luxury. Visitors will love spending a blissful few days basking in the sun and saying goodbye to their winter pallor as they lounge on L’Auberge Del Mar’s private beach.

Sip a cocktail or two and listen to the relaxing sound of crashing waves, and then get out and explore the charming coastal town of Del Mar. A stay here or at one of the other wonderful hotels in San Diego will be a fantastic addition to any summer vacation.

Cruise through La Jolla via bike or kayak

La Jolla is another picturesque coastal area of San Diego, with some of the best beaches in the world. With San Diego Bike and Kayak, visitors can discover the San Diego terrain by renting a bike and going for a leisurely ride around the area.

Another option would be going on one of their fascinating Seven Caves Kayak tours, where guides lead their group into the mysterious caves beneath “The Cove” which are only accessible by kayak.

    Explore San Diego’s Gaslamp District

Summer is peak baseball season across America, and San Diego is no exception with their local team, the Padres, playing throughout the warmer months at PETCO Park.

Even if you have an allegiance to another MLB team, catching a game at this state-of-the-art ballpark is worthwhile, as it provides stunning views of the San Diego skyline and a fun atmosphere with plenty of tempting shopping, delicious food and bustling nightlife to entertain before or after the baseball game.

By the sounds of it, it’s going to be a busy summer in San Diego! The Harbor Cruise sounds like it would be a blast! But that’s just one of many things I’d enjoy taking part of in the city.
