  • Best Thanksgiving Day destinations

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and while according to tradition people usually celebrate at home with their families, there’s no reason why you can’t be more innovative than that. The point of Thanksgiving is to spend it with the people you love, not to spend the evening at necessarily at home.

You can pick a traditional place or something really nonconformist, the point is to have fun with your friends and family, and of course, gobble up loads of delicious food. Here are our top Thanksgiving Day destinations, to help you plan the perfect Thanksgiving holiday.

    Plymouth, Massachussets

When it comes to most holidays, the place where it is celebrated the most is usually the place it originated from. Since the 1600’s when the Mayflower landed at the Plimoth Plantation, the city has changed completely, but there is a full size replica of the Mayflower where you can spend a few day in the shoes of a Pilgrim. Plymouth is the best place for a Thaksgiving holiday, especially if you want to get into the genuine holiday spirit.

    London, England

The irony of celebrating Thanksgiving in England is just too good to miss. There won’t be any special events for you there, but this time of the year you can usually get some cheap flights and accommodation, and your thanksgiving turkey can easily be replaced with some juicy roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.

    St. Augustine, Florida

According to some historians, Plymouth wasn’t the place where the colonists celebrated Thanksgiving for the first time. Instead, in 1565, Spanish explorers shared a dinner of bean soup with the native Timucua Indians, giving thanks for harvest and well, just expressing general gratitude.

    Paris, France

If the Thanksgiving dinner is the most important part of the holiday for you, why not switch the traditional Turkey for something more exciting? The Parisian chefs will surely cook up something to surprise your taste buds, whether it’s a variation on the classic roast Turkey, or something completely different.

    Aruba, Caribbean

What’s the connection between a traditional American holiday and a Dutch owned island in the Caribbean? Easy: Thanksgiving is about expressing gratitude, and how can you better express your gratitude then by taking your family to a nice tropical island, with lots of sun, beaches and exciting activities?

    New York

If you want to celebrate Thanksgiving in style, head to New York and take part of the largest celebration in the States. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is loads of fun, and you can either just look at or join about 10,000 Macy employees who are marching with a colorful display of balloons, floats and marching bands.

    Charlottesville, Virginia

The people of Charlottesville have  a wicked sense of humor.  Every year, the celebrate Governor Jefferson’s Thanksgiving Festival, which is rather ironic seeing as while he was president, Jefferson refused to celebrate Thanksgiving because he considered it a religious festival, and thus out of the state’s sphere of influence.

    San Diego, California

If you are a die-hard Jazz lover, why not spend Thanksgiving doing what you love? The San Diego Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival takes place every year on Thanksgiving weekend, so if you can convince your non-jazz loving family members or friends to join you, you’ll have a great Thanksgiving Day, without missing out on the cozy dinner among your loved ones.
