  • Backpacking Europe: Top 7 European Hostels

As the summer vacation is quickly approaching and many of you students are probably contemplating the idea of touring Europe, today I will start a whole new series of articles, meant at helping all the budget travelers with some precious tips. Accommodation is probably the biggest cost you have to deal with when touring Europe, so this is why today I will present you 7 of Europe’s best youth hostels. These might not be the cheapest hostels you could find, if it wasn’t for their youthful atmosphere and common dorms, they could easily pass for 3-star hotels.

    Villa Saint Exupery, Nice

Any back-packing Little Prince will find a warm refugee in this family run hostel in Niece, whose fame has long gone outside the borders of France (this would be the 5 consecutive year when the hostel makes it to the top 10 world finalists).  Among the hostel’s unanimously appreciated facilities we can count the free airport pick-up, free breakfast, a cinema screen and a bar where every drink is 1 euro…should I add more?

    Sunflower City, Rimini

You haven’t seen the best of Italy’s seaside if you didn’t go to Rimini. Although Rimini is generally considered as an upscale resort, Sunflower Hotel is a living proof that back-packers can safely land on these sandy beaches. With free breakfast, Internet access, friendly staff and a beach bar (that even hosts live concerts), Sunflower Hostel is a must.

    Pink Palace, Corfu

Tucked between the shady palms and rocky hills of Corfu, The Pink Hostel is more like a resort of its own. For its incredibly cheap rates, the hotel offers 24h hour entertainment: its is equipped with its own beach, snorkeling gear, massage room, ATVs , kayaks and Nightclub. Not to mention that breakfast and a free-course dinner are included in your room fee..

    Bauhaus International Youth Hostel, Bruges

When in Bruges, do like the Belgians…Instead of spending all your money on expensive accommodation, you can as well go for Bauhaus Youth Hostel, a cheerful old mansion situated in the core of this charming medieval city. This way you can spend your savings on Belgian beer samples at the hostel’s notorious Bauhaus Bar and Sacre Coeur Restaurant.

    Oasis Backpacker Mansion, Lisbon

Lisbon is generally an inexpensive city to travel, so if you decided to visit Portugal’s picturesque capital, than be ready to take hostel booking to a whole new level. If the free welcoming drink and spacious rooms overlooking the river won’t cheer you up, then the free Fado Excursions, 5 Euro worth of all you can drink sangria and surf trips will definitely do so.

    Flying Pig Hostel, Amsterdam

Flying pigs are far from the weirdest creatures that one can encounter during his/her staying in Amsterdam. If you want to check out the city’s notorious nightlife, then booking a central hostel (which also has a bar) will triple your chances to socialize. This hostel might have an age restriction, but you will rarely find a better service/price ratio then at the Flying Pig.

    Bayram’s Tree House, Olympos

Turkey might be a little out of the regular back-packer’s way, but let us not forget that there is a whole new category of budget jet setters coming from behind. The advertised tree houses are actually more like wooden bungalows, but this nice and friendly hostel makes a perfect basis for anyone ready to explore the fine beaches and old ruins that stretch along Turkey’s Lycian coast.
