    Ruse

    Ruse

Cruising is among those absolute musts that every traveler has to experience at least once in a lifetime. In most cases, cruising is all about getting some relaxation and quality entertainment while floating among tropical islands and deep-blue waters. But a river cruise represents a whole new concept.

Unlike a sea cruise, that usually takes you along a continent’s coastline, the river cruise lets you step into the very heart of the most amazing cultures. Each river carries around the myths, the personal stories and the alluvial relics of thousand of years of civilization. For today’s post, we’ve selected five epic river cruises that will each take you into the hearts of 5 different continents:

    Yangtze, Asia

China’s longest river (also the longest on the continent), gathers its waters form the magnificent heights of the Himalayan, irrigates China’s most fertile lands and widest plantations, and finally flows into the East China Sea, right in the proximity of the ultra-modern metropolis of Shanghai.

Going upstream along Yangtze River will unveil some of China’s best views: the Shanghai skyline, the infinite green of rice fields and bamboo forests and the rugged peaks of China’s spectacular gorges, partially covered by the morning mist.

    Amazon, South America

Just how many adventure movies, mystery novels and science articles were inspired by the Amazonian rain forest? The Amazonian basin encompasses one on the wildest regions in the world, so wide and isolated that no man-made bridge was ever crossed it. In addition to the fact that the Amazonian rain-forest is home to a representative percent of the world’s total number of species, it also crosses the territory of four of the most fascinating countries: Bolivia, Brazil Ecuador and Peru.

    Danube, Europe

In its sinuous journey through Central and Eastern Europe, the river Danube crosses no less than four European capitals: Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava and Belgrade. Further on, the Danube forms a natural border between Romania and Bulgaria, and ends up creating the Danube Delta, a region of sublime beauty. A Danube cruise is bothy an intellectual and visual delight.

    Mississippi, North America

Crossing the whole country from one ocean to the other behind the wheel of a convertible has been part for the American dream for many, many years. But when it comes to a north to south trip (or vice-versa), a Mississippi cruise would be the right choice.

From the decadent air and the jazzy sounds of new Orleans, through the arch of St. Louis and back to the progressive cities from the north, a cruise along the Mississippi is like a journey through time.

    Nile, Africa

The first thing that comes into my mind when I think of the Nile is ‘fertility’. The grandeur of the Egyptian civilization wouldn’t have been possible without the Nile overflowing each year, and depositing its fertile mud along the Egyptian desert. The floating hotels navigating along the Nile will take you to see the buzzing city of Cairo, the famous Valley of the Kings near Luxor and the huge dam form Aswan.
