  • Cancun Underwater Museum – the world’s first underwater sculpture park

I’m sure that everyone who is interested in diving (as well as those interested in modern art) have already heard of this museum, but I think that such an interesting place deserved a mention on our blog. So here’s the story: back in 2009, about a hundred statues made by Jason de Caires Taylor, a young but famous artist, were placed underwater off the coast of Isla de Mujeres and Cancun, on the premises of the Cancun National Marine Park.

This idea has never been put in practice before, and needless to say, it attracted a lot of attention, even from people who are not necessarily into scuba diving. Today, more than 400 underwater sculptures can be admired in this innovative park, and if you haven not dived before, now it’s time to learn how.

That does not mean that an autumn festival is nothing more than stands of fruit and vegetables, quite on the contrary, because the concept of ‘harvest’ entails more than produce: there are beer festivals, wine festivals, food festivals, music and arts festivals and many others. So for October, clear your schedule and check out some of the amazing festivals on this list.

  • What to do and where to go on the Yucatan Peninsula

Yucatan Merida BeachIf we were to define the Yucatan Peninsula in a rather simplistic and crass way, we could say that it is that part of Mexico where Cancun and the Maya pyramids are. Of course, saying something like this would be an insult to the complexity of the peninsula’s culture, heritage and people, but there is a grain of truth in it. Yucatan is straddling the border between the modern and luxurious (Cancun being the perfect example) and the heritage of the Maya ancestors, with a pinch of old colonial vestiges thrown in. These components make Yucatan a fascinating place, and much more than the sum of its parts. So here’s what you can expect to find in Yucatan, resorts and ruins notwithstanding.

  • Explore Mexico’s National Parks

    Mexico

    Mexico

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name Mexico is that Mexico represents the ultimate escape. You too must have noticed how all the outlaws, college kids or couples from Hollywood movies always see seek their refugee in Mexico.  As any stereotype, this one too has its nucleus of truth: with its all night parties, hospitable people and extremely beautiful nature, Mexico is an ideal travel destination. People head for Mexico with the hope of attending a piñata, tasting some authentic tacos and relaxing on the white sanded beaches of Cancun or Cozumel. Also, those interested in Mexico’s traditions, folk music or the relics of the fascinating Maya civilizations will have plenty to discover around Mexico (for details on Mexico’s resorts, major cities or history you might want to check this Mexico Travel Guide).
