  • Top 10 places to see in Africa

    Dogon Country, Mali

To continue our series of posts on the main sights that are an absolute must on each continent, here are the top 10 places in Africa that are so amazing that it’s a real shame if you take a tour o the continent. Obviously, it’s nearly impossible to visit all of Africa at once.

The continent is so large, the cultures so diverse and the landscapes so amazing that it would probably take years to see all the visit-worthy places. So if you have a dilemma about where to go on your African tour, here is a list of places that we are sure you’ll just love.

  • Sacred and secret places in Egypt

    Oracle Temple, Siwa

When I think of Egypt, Cairo with its bazaars, restaurants and hotels is not the first thing that comes to my mind. The idea of Egypt as a travel destination, for me (and I’m sure for many of you as well), cannot be separated from the ancient and mysterious culture that has left its mark on the country.

The pyramids of Giza are among the first landmarks that a tourist visits in Egypt, and there are many more exquisite sacred sites that will take you back in time and make your imagination run wild. So after you’ve visited Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and the major relics of the Egyptian civilization, take a look at these less famous but equally compelling places.

  • Weirdest McDonald’s locations in the world

Love it or hate it, fact is that McDonald’s can be found all over the world, and not only in places where you’d expect to find one, such as a big city. McDonald’s, in some people’s eyes, is THE American franchise, more widespread than even Coca-Cola. Sure, McDonald’s food is unhealthy and not exactly gourmet chow, but when you’re low on money and you have no local alternatives, it can be pretty much a lifesaver.

It is interesting to see what locally-adapted menus in various parts of the world (and maybe it is even worth trying a Malaysian Double Beef Prosperity Burger), but what is even more interesting is to hunt down McDonald’s restaurants in the weirdest places you can imagine.

  • North African Adventure II: Cultural Attractions

Natural beauty is one of the major assets of North Africa, but it is neither the only, nor the most important one. Actually, when thinking of North Africa, the first thing that springs to mind is not the landscape (since many people associate this part of the African continent with the Sahara desert), but the fascinating cultures and peoples that live in this place.

And I say ‘cultures’, because the countries that make up North Africa are very different from each other. The Mediterranean influences in the northernmost countries such as Algeria or Egypt is pretty obvious, but overall, visiting North-Africa can sometimes seem like being transported into a story from the Arabian Nights.

  • North African Adventure I – National Parks

Since in the past we had a series of blog entries about places to visit in South Africa, I thought that it was about time to do a bit of exploring in the northern parts of this fascinating continent as well. There are several popular tourist destinations in North Africa, think about Tunisia, Algeria or Egypt, for example.

But beyond these conventional holiday spots, as exciting as they may be, there are hundreds of places worth visiting in North Africa. I thought that like before, we could start with the most beautiful national parks in the northern regions of the African continent, because after all, there is no better way to discover a place’s natural beauties.

  • Egypt: Travel Planner

    Alexandria

    Alexandria

You have probably seen many pictures of the Pyramids.  Provided some of your friends have been there, they surely came back all smiles and incredibly charmed with what they’ve experienced. Egypt is largely different of other European destinations. In spite of being practically a dessert, the country is loaded both with a unique culture and touristic attractions. Even the Egyptians’ behavior and culture is not at all similar to the one the Europeans or the Americans display. You might or might not like this change of pace and I’ve literally seen people being enthralled or appaled by the haggle-based workarounds one needs to undertake on many occasions all throughout a trip to Egypt. Just don’t be shocked or surprised if someone wants to offer you some camels in exchange of your girlfriend 😉
