Shortly after sunrise, the mood is almost meditative on Ocean Drive in South Beach, Miami’s most famous street. This is the calm before and after the storm. Directly behind the promenade palm trees are rocking the white sand beach under the blue sky, the image is like a postcard.
At night you can go to one of the hundreds of various restaurants, trendy bars and exotic, exciting clubs, many of them especially for the LGBT community. So here is a tour around Miami for gay travelers, hope you will enjoy it.
Beach life in Miami
Crowds of skaters roll over, tanned guys and girls in swim suites or not much more dominate the scene of large parts of Miami. If they are not in motion, they are living the ‘Beauty and the Beach’ lifestyle at one of the attractive beach areas, such as the LGBT beach at the height of 12 Road.
The lounges and cafes of the popular areas are always full. Seeing and being seen is very important here as many young people hope to be discovered here by one of the famous modeling agencies that have offices here.
Many celebrities live and lived in the city, celebrities like Gianni Versace, whose former house, Casa Casuarina. Although he was shot on the stairs of the house in 1997, it is now an exclusive hotel with 10 luxurious suites, one of them named after Madonna, who slept here once.
The villa is located in the Art Deco District, one of the most beautiful architectural landscapes in the US. The decaying houses of the district were in large part renovated by members of the gay community.
Highlights for gay travelers
For gay travelers the sparkling nightlife in the glittering city lasts for twelve months a year. The absolute highlight is the White Party usually somewhere between the 25th and the 30th November, crown jewel of the global HIV and AIDS charity parties. The non-profit event has a legendary reputation for 25 years and attracts thousands of gay men and women to party for a good cause in Miami.
