Malaysia Airlines is in great trouble these days and, we have to admit, they are doing something seriously wrong. First there was the case of the ‘lost’ flight MH370 over South East Asia and now the shooting of flight MH17 – the two tragedies claimed hundreds of lives.
Now a series of serious questions arise regarding the sufficiency of the security measures taken by the airline company and everyone is asking whether it is their fault or not. Here is some insight about what happened with the two flights.
The disappearance of flight MH370
Malaysia Airlines flight going from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared without a trace on March 10 2014 right after air traffic control lost all contact with them. An extremely expensive international effort was made to finding the plane over South East Asia and West Australia, but after weeks of unsuccessful search they have stopped to analyse data and new possibilities until August, when they will resume the search.

The flight had a 12 member crew and transported 227 passengers from 15 countries altogether. More possible flight paths were considered while they were trying to find the plane and finally – though this is still not certain – it was concluded that flight MH370 fell into the southern part of the Indian Ocean.
The crash of flight MH17
On July 14 2014 Malaysia Airlines’ flight MH17, while flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down near Donetsk, in Eastern Ukraine, close to the Russian border. The aircraft was transporting 298 people – crew plus passengers – and they have all died in the crash.

The two opposing sides of the Ukrainian civil conflict were and are accusing one another for the – possibly – accidental shooting of the plane. The crash was the biggest and deadliest incident in the history of Malaysian Airlines and it is still not clear – if it will ever be – who is responsible for the attack.

The first very important question concerns the second incident: why did the airline not change the flight path of their flights going over this war zone? That should have been the first security measure to take!
Another important question is why would someone target a plane full of civilians? And this applies to both cases. If a group with any agenda hijacks a passenger plane, they usually take responsibility for it publicly and this did not happen in the case of flight MH370 which disappeared in March.
Another very important issue is the identification of the side that shot flight MH17 over Ukraine. The government in Kiev is blaming the pro-Russian rebels and/or Russia itself for shooting the plane while Russia states that it was Ukrainian forces that fired a missile at Malaysia Airlines’ flight.
