erato in News | NO COMMENTSTop 3 busiest airports in Europe
There are many different ways to define a busy airport: considering the number of flights starting from there, the number of connections it has, the amount of cargo traffic and so on. And yet, when we think of a really busy airport the first thing occurring to us is the multitude of people filling the corridors and waiting areas.
Here come the busiest airports in Europe, so you would know where to expect the biggest crowds and longest queues but also the most amenities and things to do. As you will see in the video below, Heathrow Airport, for instance, has got a lot to offer.
London Heathrow Airport, London, UK
The largest airport of UK’s capital, London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is also the busiest airport in Europe considering passenger traffic. With over 70 million passengers it was the third busiest airport in the world according to 2012 data.
Heathrow is serving multiple destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa as well as the Middle East and if we only counted international flights and passengers, this airport would actually be the largest in the world. It is the main hub of British airways as well as a main base for the operations of Virgin Atlantic.

Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, France
Second on the top 3 busiest airports list is the main airport of France, Charles de Gaulle (CDG). It dealt with over 61.5 million passengers in the last year and although its staff is famously not bilingual, the place itself is really modern and nice. Also, as you may have guessed, it is the main base of Air France.
CDG airport is interestingly the actual busiest airport in Europe for cargo traffic with over 2 million tonnes in one year. The airport operates numerous flights to former French colonies and North Africa, but not exclusively.

The busiest airport in Germany, Frankfurt Airport is a major hub for two significant airline companies: Lufthansa and Condor. Both airlines operate lots of international flights from and to the city.Flughafen Frankfurt am Main (FRA) – the German name of the airport – has a considerable business travel traffic as it is approximately in the center of Europe. This is also proven by the fact FRA served more than 57 million passengers in 2012, partly because the German city gives home to one of the largest stock exchanges in the whole world. All in all, if you are traveling to Germany, it is probable that you will fly to Frankfurt.
