You should purchase tickets before they are all sold out for your scheduled departure. Late arrival may cause delay to your trip. Expect that you might miss a bus schedule. Bus stations are usually congested with passengers waiting in a long line for the ticket. Don’t feel pressured just because you miss one scheduled bus, there will be another. There are other buses which will depart to your destination. You should have plenty of patience and wait until the next bus comes in.

Bring your own food and water for the bus trip. Bus travel can involve long hours of being on the bus. Restaurants are available at some bus stops but the food is mostly processed and fattening. Choose a seat that makes you comfortable. Socialize with your seatmate if you’re traveling alone. During stops, you might want to go to the comfort room. Socializing with your seatmate while traveling will allow you to ask a favor to him/her to watch out for your luggage. The favor will be returned if he/she is the one in need. Bigger bus stations provide lockers for your valuables in case you need to go somewhere or you have a big layover and want to go and explore the place. A locker fee will be charged to you. These are usually quite reasonable.

Take note of the scheduled time of departure at every bus stop. The bus company is not liable if you are left behind. You can opt for the window seat to eliminate the chance of disturbance by a seatmate who needs to get up often. On the other hand, choose the aisle seat if you are always getting up and down.
