Weirdest McDonald’s locations in the world

Love it or hate it, fact is that McDonald’s can be found all over the world, and not only in places where you’d expect to find one, such as a big city. McDonald’s, in some people’s eyes, is THE American franchise, more widespread than even Coca-Cola. Sure, McDonald’s food is unhealthy and not exactly gourmet chow, but when you’re low on money and you have no local alternatives, it can be pretty much a lifesaver.

It is interesting to see what locally-adapted menus in various parts of the world (and maybe it is even worth trying a Malaysian Double Beef Prosperity Burger), but what is even more interesting is to hunt down McDonald’s restaurants in the weirdest places you can imagine.

Yangshuo, China

Yangshuo County is offers some of the most scenic view you can find in China. The town of Yangshuo, the county’s seat, is nestled between a batch of impressive karst peaks and the River Li. Yangshuo is very popular with backpackers and hikers, so there are lots of foreign-oriented restaurants and hostels,  but they mostly blend in with the town’s other buildings.

Everything looks like a postcard image, until you find the McDonalds, a strange hybrid between a pagoda and a fast-food restaurant.

Negev Desert, Israel

Negev is a desert in the south of Israel, which is very beautiful but not exactly hospitable. Half of Israel is engulfed by the Nedev Desert, but despite the amazing ruins and landscapes, it is scarcely populated. A very strange location indeed for a lonely McDonald’s and McCafe on the route to the southern resort towns.

This McDonald’s is literally in the middle of nowhere, and possibly the only McDonalds that is a sight for sore eyes (only because of those miles of dry desert trek).

Luxor Temple, Egypt

Hatshepsut, Amenhotep, Tutmosis III and other pharaohs would turn in their sarcophagi if they saw the golden archest proudly standing just in front of the temple they had built millenia ago.

Considering the huge number of tourists who visit the temple, it makes sense to build a McDonald’s, but that doesn’t change the fact that the restaurant looks completely weird next to the majestic colonnades of the temple. If you want to imagine yourself in ancient Egypt when you’re visiting Luxor, try to do so with your back to the McDonald’s.

Krabi, Thailand

It seems that wherever there are tourists, there will unavoidably be a McDonald’s, but sometimes it’s still shocking to see the the yellow sign in a place that you wish was untouched by outside influences. The small town of Krabi, on the western coast of Thailand, is know for its scenic views and it is a gateway to larger beach resorts. Possibly even weirder than the location instead is the sight of Ronald McDonald doing a Thai greeting, but then again, he’s been spotted in other corners of Thailand as well.

Museum of Communism, Prague

The Museum of Communism in Prague is a fascinating place where you can take a peek at what used to be behind the Iron Curtain. The exhibits can show you what life was like during the post-WWII communist regime in Czechoslovakia, so chances are that you will be shocked by something or other. To top it off, there’s a McDonald’s just under the museum, but on the positive note the sight of it can help you snap back to reality.

😀 lol I can barely believe there is a McDonald’s in the Museum of Communism.. It’s like the two extremes.

Also what’s on the first image? Is that also a special Mac location?
