The Chinese have accomplished what many other nations could not: they built the largest wall on the planet, visible even from space, they had medicine while others were still using leeches to cure illnesses, are masters of art, literature, music and science, and this is what most tourist to China are looking forward to.
Right? Well, yes, but let’s not forget the great nightlife of China’s capital city. Leaving Beijing without checking out a few nightclubs is almost as bad as not visiting the Forbidden City. So get your clubbing gear on, and set out to explore some of the top 5 hottest nightclubs in Beijing.
Jiadingfangm Xicheng District
En entire little nightlife district was formed around Houhai Lake, and it used to be very popular too until it was surpassed by newer districts. Still, there are some really good places around Houhai, for example Jiadingfang, a great place to both drink and eat. The club is large, and the menu is very varied, but you won’t find very cheap drinks or grub here. There is live music every night, mostly by local indie bands.
The world of Suzie Wong, Chaoyang District
Inspired by the glitzy novel of the same name by Richard Mason, The world of Suzie Wong has been described as a combination between a 30’s opium den and a sleek, modern lounge. The club is always packed, without exception, so if you want to get a good table you have to be there early. The drink menu is large, from interesting cocktails to a number of Chinese or foreign beers.
GT Banana, Chaoyang District
GT Banana is one of the famous megaclubs in Beijing, with a capacity of about 2000 people and spicy decor. The club blends Hollywood chic (or kitsch, depending on your own tastes) with a look fit for a space-shuttle. There are lots of plastic palm trees, surf boards and chandeliers, and the music is always trendy: techno and house, usually played by DJs of national or international fame.
Propaganda, Haidian District
Propaganda is a fairly new club, but it is already among the most fashionable places in Beijing. The two floors of the venue are packed with the trendiest, hippest crowd in the city. The first floor is perfect for a couple of drinks, at it has the atmosphere of a lounge, while the ground floor is a wild party place with loud music and a huge dance floor.

Babyface has locations in Shanghai and Guangzhou too, but so far, the Beijing club is the finest one. When it was opened in 2004, the club introduced the lounge concept to Beijing’s nightlife scene, and newer clubs admit that they drew their inspiration from Babyface. Dance to electro-techno music in a neon-lit decor, and groove out to some of the best international DJs.
