Too Hot in Florida? Check Out Disney’s Water Parks!

Walt Disney World’s Water Parks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon offer much needed relief when the heat of Florida gets too high on your Disney holiday.

Blizzard Beach, located close to Downtown Disney, was created, according to Disney legend, when a freak snowstorm hit Florida blanketing the state with snow. A ski resort quickly came to life, until once again the weather turned hot and the snow began to melt.

A business minded Alligator saw an opportunity and slid down the snow-less slopes landing in a big splash. In a moment, he had created Blizzard Beach the coolest water park with a ski theme.

Mount Gushmore, a mountain in the middle of the park, hosts the majority of the slides, with its slopes being split into three coloured areas. Around the bottom of Mount Gushmore is the Cross Country Creek a lazy river ride in which tired out parents can slowly glide and soak up the Florida sun.

Blizzard Beach’s most iconic water slide has to be Summit Plummit. Standing 130ft tall with riders reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, Summit Plummit is not the faint hearted. Slusher gusher, standing at a mere 90ft tall, gives those who don’t fancy the intimidating Summit Plumit a pretty significant water slide. Other top attractions include the Snow Stormers and Toboggan Racers which allow for side by side racing down the slopes of Mount Gushmore.

Ski Patrol is an area for younger children to enjoy cooling off in the water with a leisure pool area as well as a number of flumes and slides suitable for young children.

Typhoon Lagoon was created when, according to Disney Legend, a freak storm destroyed a Caribbean resort, throwing surf board and fishing gear around the resort as well as depositing a ship on top of Mount Mayday.

Typhoon Lagoon can attest to the world’s largest wave pool, through which a 6-foot wave erupts every few minutes, as well as a number of water slides and flumes. Castaway Creek is the lazy river ride of this water park and visitors can glide through rainforests, waterfalls as well as through Mount Mayday itself.

Unlike Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon’s Shark Reef offers visitors the chance to snorkel with sharks, stingrays and tropical fish a great new experience for children. Younger children also have their own play area Ketchakiddee Creek which features 10 different activity areas including small slides, waterfalls, crawl tubes, a leaky tugboat and a mini rapids ride.

Big attractions also include Humunga Kowabunga which drops five stories in complete darkness as well as Crush’n’Gusher a two person ring ride through hair-pin turns and sudden drops, and Gang Plank Falls which the whole family can enjoy together on large rafts for four people.
