Bwindi Impenetrable is not quite as inaccessible as its name might suggest, but it is a remote corner of Uganda that can only be reached after a long and strenuous trip, and the park itself can only be explored on foot. Little human intervention was made in the park, which is just as well considering that Bwindi has one of the riches ecosystems in all of Africa. Among the species you might meet in the park are the elusive and severely endangered mountain gorillas – the park is home to one half of the mountains gorilla population in the world.

Kangaroo Island is fairly isolated from the mainland and it is an oasis of rich wildlife and vegetation. If you want to see most of the iconic species of Australia, then your best chances are on KI. You get to see kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and echidnas along with other lesser known (but just as fascinating species). Book a guided tour, or rent a car and explore the island on your own.
