  • Five weird theme parks around the world

Unless you are aged 10, you probably won’t want to plan an entire trip around visiting one single theme park. Amusement parks are more amusing for kids rather than adults, but there is the odd park that can make even the most hardened grown-up smile a little.

If you are bored of traditional merry-go-rounds, roller coasters and ghost trains, you should check out some of the more unusual theme parks around the world. They might not be enough to keep you entertained for weeks, but there will be enough novelty in them to fill a day at least. Here’s list of the most weird and unusual theme parks you can find.

    Diggerland, UK

diggerlandThere are four Diggerland locations in Britain (Devon, Durham, Kent, Yorkshire) which proves that the park is actually quite popular. Diggerland is self-described as the ultimate adventure park experience, although few people would think that upon hearing that Diggerland amuses its visitors with…construction machinery. The park looks a bit like a construction site, but if you’ve ever wanted to drive a dumper truck, here is your chance.

    Dickensland, UK

Dickensland seems to be the polar opposite of Disneyworld: no magical princesses and singing animals, castles and pirates. Instead, you’ll be transported back to Charles Dickens’s England, not the most pleasant places on earth. Instead of Mickey Mouse, kids and adults can meet Oliver Twist or David Copperfield, and instead of a fairytale castle you can visit a Victorian boarding school complete with a nasty headmaster.

    Grutas Park, Lithuania

Here’s an amusement park where regular kids would  most likely yawn with boredom. Grutas Park is also called Stalin Wworld, after Stalin, the Soviet dictator. The idea itself is quite shocking, but don’t expect any communist-themed rides and amusements, because this park is full of statues and not much else.

The park features about 90 huge statues depicting various Soviet activists. Not the jolliest place on earth, the owners of the park also added a mini zoo with ostriches and peacocks to make it more to the liking of children. Whether they succeeded is rather questionable.

    Crocosaurus Cove, Australia

crocosaurus coveWhat could be more amusing than baiting a live crocodile while you’re submerged into the water in a transparent acrylic box? The Cage of Death is designed for those with a serious addiction to adrenaline, but there are also some tamer activities that you can undertake in this park.

For example fishing for baby crocodiles with your kids, feed them fish or watch the adult crocodiles tear hunks of meat to pieces. And after getting friendly with the reptiles, you can even buy some authentic crocodile skin in the park’s shop.

    Dollywood, Tennessee, US

To put it simply, Dollywood is a theme park dedicated to Dolly Parton. It doesn’t sound like the most fun place on earth (except if you really like Dolly Parton), but the sheer weirdness of this park makes it worth a visit. There is a Dolly Parton museum named Chasing Rainbows, a thrill ride, arts and crafts shops and a full size steam train.

Of course, you’ll be able to buy Dolly Parton merchandise, and clothes designed by the singer.
