This festival has become a pilgrimage site for indie fans all over the US and it usually features alternative rock, rap, punk, avantgarde and jazz bands. Tickets are cheap, and the festival is crowded with like minded indie lovers.

    Bumbershoot, Seattle

bumbershootBumbershoot international music festival has been held every year at the beginning of September since 1971. All kinds of music have been played at Bumbershoot, from Tina Turner and Eurythmics to indie acts like Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie.

In addition to music, there is also theatre, dance and art, so the festival is now known to showcase the current trends in culture. Bumbershoot is also a launching ramp for many regional artists, so you never know what you talents will surprise you every year.

    Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza is THE American rock music festival, and has been so for many years. If you love heavy metal, alternative rock and punk rock, you will feel right at home here. Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins have played at Lollapalooza, and the festival is responsible for coining the term ‘alternative nation’. Lollapalooza used to be a touring festival, but now it takes place in Chicago for three days every August. In addition to catering to music elitists, the festival is also going green, so it should also appeal to music-loving environmentalists.

    Lillith Fair

Established by singer Sarah McLachlan and some high-ranking people from Nettwelk Music Group, this festival was revived in 2010 after an absence of 10 years. The festival features women-only artists, and the revenues are donated to women’s charity funds. The festival tours Britain, mainland Europe and the US. Festival venues are virtually all over the US: Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Columbia, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and the featured artists are both new comers and old hands , for example Cat Power, the Gossip, Liz Phair or Sixpence none the richer.

    Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Colorado

Don’t skip this festival just because you don’t like bluegrass music. It might have started out as a purely bluegrass festival, but today the festival invites band who play a variety of musical genres.

The festival is held in June on a camping site in the Colorado mountains and it tries to be as green as possible. Participants get filtered water and organic food, and in addition to the music festival experience, you also get rewarded with a fun camping experience in a beautiful place.
