    For lots of people, pizza is their favorite dinner, snack and comfort food, and pizza fans can go to great lengths in order to find the perfect slice that meets their expectations of dough thickness, crunchiness and taste of the topping.

    Pizza comes in many forms with toppings that differ from place to place, from restaurant to restaurant, and with the virtual infinity of ingredient combinations, few few people can claim to hate it. And since the US has a knack for adopting and adapting culinary traditions (in this case, Italian), there are a lot of choices out there for the pizza connoisseur. So here are some tips on where to eat the best pizza in the US.

    Pizzeria Delfina, San Francisco

    The pie is what makes Delfina so special among pizzerias: a distinctly successful mix between American-style and Neapolitan style pizzas. The crust is sometimes a bit pale according to some customers, but even topping combinations that might seem strange on the menu are pulled off with brio by the people at Delfina. The decor is hip and quirky and the menu is not overpriced in the least.

    Sally’s Apizza, New Haven, Connecticut

    Sally’s is not the kind of joint that travelers usually go gladly in, neither because of the decor (drab and dismal, according to some), nor the service (unless you’re a regular), but their pizza is so good that it makes the rest of the place worth the bother. The white pie with no tomato sauce is especially delicious, topped with potato and rosemary, and the rest of the pizza menu follows closely behind.

    Buddy’s, Detroit

    The specialty of Buddy’s is Detroit-style square pizza, which is not something that you often see outside the city. Any slice at Buddy’s is worth its money, but the most sought after are the corner slices which are incredibly crunchy and more satisfying than the middle slices – if you like your meals well done, then you will love every pizza at Buddy’s (especially if you’re lucky enough to get the corner slice).

    Al Forno, Providence, Rhode Island

    The pizza at Al Forno is not only utterly mouth-watering, it also looks like something created by an artist. The toppings on the pizzas are artfully arranged and it’s almost pity to eat them – or at least that’s what you’re going to think until their aroma hits you. You might have to wait until you get a table, but the grilled pizzas are more than worth it.

    Osteria, Philadelphia

    Osteria has some weird pizzas on the menu, like squash pizza for example. Probably few people would order something with raisins, toasted pine nuts, squash cubes and oodles of mozzarella, but once you taste it you might completely change your opinion of squash forever.
