  • The best hot chocolate in New York

New York is a feast for the sense, and since the question of the best bagels or the best cheesecakes in NYC has been solved, it is time to turn to beverages. And since it’s winter and your nose will unavoidably get a bit cold while strolling in the streets of the Big Apple, the best thing to warm you up is a cup of warm chocolate. And while there’s a lot of different kinds of hot chocolate to be found in New York, not all of them are remarkable. So here are the the places where you can find the best hot chocolate in New York.

    Max Brenner

Max Brenner’s is the first restaurant in the world dedicated to worshipping chocolate, and there’s nary a thing on the menu that doesn’t contain at least a drop of chocolate. Understandably, their hot chocolate is very carefully prepared, and there are several types you can choose from.

Their concentrated chocolate shots are downright magical: thick, creamy, with a strong aroma and sipped through a straw. The frozen chocolate frappes are also delicious, but perhaps best left alone until summer.

    City Bakery

City Bakery is almost synonymous with chocolate, seeing as it has been organizing a hot chocolate festival for the past 18 years. Their hot chocolate is very thick, rich and creamy, and it is made using a dark chocolate base.

Their signature is to drop a snowy white chunk of marshmallow into the hot chocolate – our tip is to leave it in the cup until it softens. Accompany your chocolate with some delicious cookies, and you’ll full of cheer the whole day.

    La Maison du Chocolat

A chocolaterie in the truest sense of the word, La Maison du Chocolat offers a wide range of treats made of chocolate. They have two types of hot chocolate: a dark and rich version, made with dark chocolate and with a generous dollop of whipped cream on top, and a lighter version prepared using milk chocolate, which smells enticingly of vanilla.

    Organicoa

Organicoa’s motto is that commerce and conscience can work together, and while their menu contains only two chocolate drinks, they are some of the best you can find in the city. The hot chocolate is organic (hence the name organicoa), and it is simply delicious. If you want the same taste, but with less heat, try the Frocoa, the chilled version of the Organicoa.

    Vosges Haut-Chocolat

This shop is famous for inventing the applauded bacon-chocolate candy bars, and their hot chocolate menu doesn’t disappoint either. Their hot chocolates come in surprising conbinations of flavors. Try their Aztec hot chocolate (ancho and chipotle chillies, cinnamon, vanilla beans, dark chocolate) or the Parisienne, their classic and mouth-watering signature hot chocolate.
