  • Top 5 vegetarian restaurants in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, the city of contrasts, of tango, of romance, adventure, but also culture and history. Anyone should visit the Argentine capital at least once in their lifetimes, because you’re sure to find something to catch your eye there. While this can happen in any unknown city, one problem that vegetarians can experience in Buenos Aires is the question of where to eat out.

Eating in a regular restaurant might make for less than a satisfying meal, if all you can eat is the salad…so for the veggie traveler, here are the top 5 vegetarian restaurants in Buenos Aires.

    Casa Felix

If you are eager for a quiet, friendly and intimate dining experience, then you should definitely book a table at Casa Felix, a private restaurant where you can specify your dietary needs and have the meals custom made for you. Casa Felix receives only a dozen or so guests at a time, so you need to make an appointment by phone or e-mail well in advance. The five course meals usually include a lesson in greens and spices in the restaurant’s garden.

    Meraviglia

This little bakery/cafe is the sort of place where you can spend all morning enjoying your breakfast and the newspaper. They specialize in a variety of delicious fruit juices (try the mint and ginger lemonade) and a large variety of vegetarian dishes and sandwiches, like falafel sandwiches or fresh and healthy salads.

    Artemisia

Artemisia is not strictly vegetarian, as it has a couple of fish dishes on the menu, but mostly it offers a wide variety of seasonal veggie meals. One of the best things about Artemisia is the free home-made bread and garlic hummus served before your meals. The dishes are creative, and the tapas selections is absolutely amazing.

    Kensho

Kensho is a tiny vegetarian restaurant that will make you feel like you’re in somebody’s apartment rather than a restaurant. There are only a handful of tables, and the best thing about the place – an open kitchen. You can see how the staff prepares the meals while lounging on cushions instead of chairs, and then enjoy a lovely four course meal that is worth each and every peso you pay for it.

    La Fabrica del Taco

When you’re a vegetarian and low on your money, it is sometimes difficult to find a cheap and reasonably good place without resorting to fast-food side dishes. La Fabrica del Taco, a Mexican restaurant, is not entirely vegetarian, but it has quite a few vegetarian tacos which are both cheap and delicious. Try the quesadilla and refried beans too.

That’s like the most beautiful churches in Sin City.
Argentina is a steak paradise. Who’d guess, there are some nice vegetarian restaurants…
    And how do they survive?
