    Bern

If you really, truly love chocolate, then you will not need much convincing to say that chocolate makes the world around. But what if you went around the world for chocolate instead?

Buying truffles and creme filled bonbons at the neighborhood chocolate shop will satisfy your craving for this tasty treat, but for many people it’s not enough – they will travel for hundreds or thousands of miles just to get a taste of a special kind of chocolate, or visit a chocolate factory where their favorite dessert is made. If a decadent holiday is what you want too, then check out some of the world’s most delicious destinations for chocolate lovers.

    Bern, Switzerland

Did you know that Switzerland is the country with the highest per capita consumption of chocolate in the world? It’s no wonder that here’s where you can find some of the best chocolate on the planet. Visit Bern, the birthplace of the mouth-watering Toblerone chocolate, the prism shaped bar that you can often find in duty-free shops. In addition to vast quantities of every imaginable kind of toblerone, Bern has several great chocolate shops and patisseries where you can indulge in the sugary goodness.

The Kuna people of Panama are in the habit of eating cocoa fruit and washing it down with cocoa drink, which makes their hearts unusually healthy.

A trip to Bocas del Toro is like going to the very origins of chocolate, which seems to be available in all the stages of its ‘evolution’ from beans to bars. There are plenty of hiking trails on former cocoa plantations, so you can sometimes sample the fruit while you’re out in nature.

    Barcelona, Spain

Some of the best chocolatiers in Europe have worked or are working in Barcelona, so it’s not surprising that there is a museums dedicated to this dessert. The Museo de la Xocolata has chocolate in many shapes and forms, from intricate statues that are too pretty to eat to ornate, mouth-watering cakes. Plus, there are countless luxury chocolate boutiques in the city where you can either buy some of the expensive wares or at least get some free samples.

    Southern Belize

Belize has the perfect climate for growing chocolate, which is held in such high esteem that many lodges offer short courses on the history and production of chocolate.

Cotton Tree Lodge in the Belizean jungle is one such option, and you also get to visit a working cocoa farm to get some hands-on experience with the transformation of cocoa beans into creamy, melt in your mouth chocolate.

    New York, USA

New York is a paradise on earth for foodies and for makers of delicious food, so of course there is tons of delicious chocolate to be found here. Chocolatiers from all over the globe have opened up shops in the Big Apple, selling scrumptious chocolate based confections. You can take a tour of the chocolate shops yourself, or sign up for a tour (which usually includes free samples too).
