    Verona

    Verona

Verona, the town of Romeo and Juliet, is one of the most romantic places in the world. But can you have romanticism without paying a lot of money for it? If you know how to save money on your trip, then the answer is definitely yes. There are lots of ways to save money while traveling, and meals are one of them.

Unless you are a hardened food-lover, you can sacrifice gourmet food for some less refined but filling and nonetheless tasty foods that come for cheap. So if you are willing to live more frugally while visiting some awesome places, here are the cheapest places to eat in Verona, Italy.

    Osteria Sottoriva

The Sottoriva medieval arcade houses a number of eateries, all of which are really good, but the best of them is Osteria Sottoriva. A sign on the door warns that the service will be slow, but that’s not because the staff don’t care about you, it’s just that great service often doesn’t come quick.

For 6-8 euro, you can get gigantic portions of polenta with melted gorgonzola, braised tripe with parmezan, or crepes filled with ricotta and spinach.

    Hosteria La Vecchia Fontanina

Traditional Veronese cuisine can be quite fancy and might require some expensive ingredients, but the chefs at Hosteria La Vecchia Fontanina have managed to recreate the traditional tastes with cheaper, but just as fresh and healthy ingredients. You can eat in the cozy small rooms of the restaurants, but in summer you can enjoy the weather on the terrace. A plate of delicious pasta will cost you about 6-7 euro.

    Trattoria Papa e Cicia

This small restaurant located about 10 minutes from the city center offers authentic home-cooked meals for a very affordable price. Better than buying individual courses, you should go for a full meal that will cost you about 11 euro: pasta, main course, dessert, wine and coffee. Every evening there’s risotto on theĀ  menu, but each night there’s a different twist on it: mushrooms, seafood, veggies or other yummy garnishes.

    Caffe Monte Baldo

Caffe Monte Baldo is a very lively little eatery that is always bustling with clients at lunchtime or dinnertime. Not only the food is affordable, but the wine too. There’s a large selection of domestic wines that you can buy by the glass, to wash down the fusilli, lasagna, antipasti or mortadella. A pasta dish will cost you around 6 euro.

    Osteria Carroarmato

Osteria Carroarmato is one of the oldest eateries in Verona, and one of the most cheerful ones too. If you want a tete a tete with your partner, you won’t have it here – all the clients of the restaurant sit at communal tables. However, it is a great place to chat with the locals, over a large serving of pasta e fasoi (a thick soup of pasta and beans) or polenta topped with mushrooms and cheese.
