  • The best tea in London

The British were not the first ones in the world to start drinking tea, but they are definitely the ones who are most associated with black tea drinking habits. Of course, black tea is drunk all over the world, but when you see a dainty little teacup filled with black tea with a dash of milk, you can already picture yourself in an old little teahouse in the center of London.

The British have fallen in love with tea ever since in was first brought to England in the 17th century, and even now it is the most popular drink in the British Isles. So when you’re in the UK capital, here’s where you can have the best tea in London.

    The Capital Restaurant, Knightsbridge

The Capital is certainly not cheap by any means, but if you want to experience that posh atmosphere that you can see in old British TV shows, this is the right place for you. For about 20 pounds you can have a nice pot of tea with all the trimmings (meaning the food): delicate sandwiches, homemade pastries, scones and delicious jams. You can choose from a range of teas and infusions, and don’t forget to try the traditional scones with clotted cream and jam.

    English Tea Room, Brown’s Hotel

The Tea Guild declared that the best afternoon tea in London is to be found in the English Tea Room at Brown’s Hotel. The tea room is simply amazing, all wood panels, warm lamp lights, a fireplace and a Jacobean detailed plaster ceiling.

The tea is very expensive (£37 per person), but it is totally worth it. You’ll be able to choose from 17 types of tea, fresh sandwiches, pastries, scones, cakes and preserves, which are continuously replenished, so you can eat as mucha s you want.

    Ladurée, Knightsbridge

Laduree is located inside Harrods, so if you want to rest after a shopping trip, you can do it here. The place is very fancy in a stylish French way, so don’t go in wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

The tea is delicious, and the accompanying pastries and cakes even more so. You’ll have your choice of designer millefeuilles, meringues, macaroons and mouth-watering chocolate cakes. The price per person is about £20.

Original Maids of Honour, Kew Gardens

This old fashioned tea shop looks out onto Kew Gardens, so you’ll have the perfect view to accompany your tea. Having tea at the Original Maids of Honour is like enjoying your cuppa in the English countryside, surrounded by cottage furniture, blue and white china and excellent strong tea. The cakes are delicious and they are all baked in-house, and you can also buy them on your way to have for later.

I hope their tea is better than their cuisine. I ate in London some really terrible food. Even McDonalds food has a strange taste, not as elsewhere in the world.
On the other side, the city is cool.

Hey mark, London has some amazing cuisine. Just stay away from the English food. Go for middle Eastern or asian and you’ll find some amazing spots.
