    Barcelona seeing from above

Barcelona is definitely one of the top tourist destinations in Spain, if not the entire Europe, and besides the countless cultural and historical attractions in the city, there’s another huge plus: the food. No trip to Spain is complete without sampling the local culinary delights, and Spanish food will not taste better anywhere than in its homeland.

However, finding decent joint where you can try the local food can be a bit difficult when you don’t know Barcelona, and you can easily fall into the trap of tourist restaurants with huge prices and not such great food. So here are out tip that can help you to eat like a local in Barcelona.

    Can Majó

Paella is one of those dishes that you must absolutely try when you go to Spain, and in Barcelona you will find an interesting twist on this national dish. The Catalan paella is called fideuá, and instead of rice it is made using noodles. There are countless varieties of fideuá, but the best is the shrimp and mussel one at Can Majo, a small, family owned restaurant with a long history. Adress: c/Almirall Aixada 23,

    Inopia

Inopia used to be a humble tapas place up till recently, but now it is one of the most popular places in the city. Inopia still retains the feel of a traditional tapas place where you can eat patatas bravas (fries in hot sauce and aioli) and garlic chicken wings standing in a small room, but now you’ll be surrounded by hipsters and the trendy youth of Barcelona. Address: c/Tamarit 104

    Cuines Santa Caterina

Appearance-wise, Cuines Santa Catarina looks very pleasant, with wooden tables and modern furniture, but the atmosphere is nonetheless very cozy. The tables are quite large, so you’ll probably have to share with other people, but that’s not a problem in friendly Barcelona.

The menu is very varied, and it includes sushi, Mediterranean cuisine, tapas, and fusion dishes. The prices are a bit on the spicy side, but the service and the food is totally worth it. If you’d rather not spend to much money on a meal, skip the full course and order delicious tapas. Address: Mercado de Santa Caterina, Avinguda Francesc Cambó 17

    Tomo II

If you like ice cream, you won’t be able to leave this place very soon. Tomo II sells some of the best ice cream you can find in the entire city. All the ice creams and sorbets are home-made, and while the selection is not exactly huge, the portions are generous.

Their vanilla ice cream is famous throughout Barcelona, and you should also try their fruit flavored varieties, which are produced on site. If you can’t finish your portion, ask for a plastic lid and take it away with you. Address: c/Argenteria 61, El Born
