  • Famous cemeteries that you should visit BEFORE you die

Pere LachaiseAs morbid as it sounds, cemeteries can be really interesting places to visit. Even if you don’t have an inclination towards the macabre, you can admire cemeteries from an aesthetic point of view. Old cemeteries usually have some interesting monuments, crypts and statues, and they will also have one or two famous or historical figures buried within. And then there are graveyards which are famous because they are purportedly haunted, usually by the spirit of some murderer or other buried within. In any case, a walk through a famous cemetery is worth a couple of hours if you want a bit of peace and quiet, and if you aren’t lucky enough to see a ghost, at least you can boast that you’ve see the grave of someone famous.

  • The adventurer’s guide to trekking in Bhutan

For many people, Bhutan is a small spot on the vast map of Asia, just in the eastern corner of India. But whereas when thinking of major Asian destinations such as India, Thailand or China you have a clear image of what you can expect, Bhutan seems much more mysterious and elusive. Sure, the scenery looks amazing and the country is considered to be the last Shangri-La by Buddhists and those who are interested in Eastern religions.

But if you look behind the mystical aura that surrounds Bhutan (from the western perspective, at least), you’ll find that this little country is the perfect destination for a special eastern adventure. Visiting Bhutan is like returning to good ol’ fashioned traveling – no nightclubs, beaches and restaurants, just the pure enjoyment of seeing something completely different.

  • The unseen side of New Orleans

The Big Easy breathes and feeds of tourism, so day and night you’ll always find something to do or see in this city. The French Quarter, the Garden District, the Bayou and Lake Pontchartrain are usual tourist destinations, and if you want a taste of regular, marketable New Orleans, these are the things that you should go and see.

However, New Orleans is a vibrant and diverse city, and there are always more things to do there than what is advertised in the travel brochures. What’s more, there are a lot of fun activities that you can do in New Orleans for free, you just have to learn where to look for them.

  • A guide to haunted places in Scotland

The United Kingdom is the birthplace of Gothic horror, and many a terrifying Victorian novel was set in the windy, foggy hills of Scotland. This rugged and wild region is the perfect setting for a spooky story, but if you are to believe some of the locals, these tales are mostly rooted in a grain of truth. Scotland is home to some of the most haunted place on earth.

Abandoned graveyards, ruined churches and majestic castles – there are plenty of places in Scotland for a ghost or two to hide. If you are looking to spice up your holiday with a few shivers down your spine, just take a midnight stroll in any of these places and you’ll definitely fall prey to their creepy atmosphere. It doesn’t matter if you believe in ghosts or not…although after your visit you might change your opinion!

  • Fashion Capitals of the World. Next Generation

When it comes to fashion capitals of the world, one cannot stop thinking about one (or more) of the big four: Paris, Milan, London and New York. Their importance in the world of fashion (and especially haute couture) is undeniable: here you can find the most innovative designers, prestigious fashion houses and glamorous boutiques.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean that all the world’s fashion is concentrated in these four locations. Slowly but throughly, other big cities from around the world are building their way up to top five, releasing original creations on the market and welcoming visitors with posh boutiques and one-of-a-kind fashion shows. In today’s top five we have included some less known fashion capitals that have all the chances to become the 5th on the list:

  • 5 Most Disastrous Oil Spills in History

The Louisiana oil spill has been officially declared as the worst oil spill in history of the United States. Unlike most such accidents, which are usually caused by an oil tank being damaged, the leak generated by the BP platform explosion seems unstoppable. And while accusations and solutions are trying to make sense out of this controversial case, thousands of birds and sea animals die suffocated by the oil layer.

Dolphins, pelicans, crabs and sea turtles are only few of the species whose existence is being jeopardized by the oil spill, not to mention the fact that some of the best Florida beaches are now covered in oil residue and tar balls. The only hope is for the Deepwater Horizon spill to be stopped before becoming the worst spill ever: and judging by its predecessors, statistics look quite gloomy:

  • World’s Most Extravagant Spa Centers

I think that there are very few of us travelers who never dreamed about reaching some unknown tropical island, where your beauty and wits would make the benevolent inhabitants elect you as their leader and do everything to please you for as many days you have left (this will include daily massages,  hot tub baths and serving breakfast in your hammock). It might seem like a wild and impossible dream, but with a little imagination and a good share of your life savings, this dream can easily become true.

The truth is that there are hundreds of such places all around the world: just bring out several hundreds of dollars and you will feel more spoiled and pampered than a king! Modern spas can be found almost everywhere: in the middle of the desert, on some isolated island or right at the top of a skyscraper. But there are spas whose harmonious design, innovative treatments and high professionalism have made them famous all around the globe. We therefore present you five of the most extravagant spa centers in the world:

So, we’re in our second month of our contest and things are looking up, you guys have really turned the Travelgrove community into a nicer place. Some of the greatest contributors include Diana, Erato (also known in some circles as the Hedgehog catcher), Bicksa and Ultimatetravel, which was ultimately the one to lift the trophy. Well ok, there wasn’t much to lift, but that’s the idea with the iPod Nano, it’s sleek and small and cute and useful.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have a Winner

If you guys reading this aren’t subscribed to our newsletter (why aren’t you by the way, we have some awesome deals in there and we have a low-key unobtrusive newsletter :) ) and haven’t heard the news already, I’d just like to give another shout out to Cipristb, the winner of Travelgrove’s awesome contest of last month. He’s the proud owner of an 8GB iPod Nano, after working hard on his rep in the Travelgrove community, scoring an impressive 793 points in the process. Still, kudos to all of our top 3 contenders and to everyone of our users involved in this contest and involved in making the Travelgrove Community a better, more informative and fun-to-hang-out-in place.

Oh and as I mentioned before, this is just the start of things for us. As the community snowball is rolling downhill, we’ll be showering you guys with monthly contests and rewards for your activity. So stick around and get involved, we’re one of the few sites out there where helping other people with answers on a forum puts iPods (and more) in your pockets :)
