  • Amazing Places: The Mysterious Easter Island

There are few places on earth that manage to fascinate people as much as the Easter Island, or Rapa Nui. Not only because of the giant stone busts lying around the island, but also because it is one of the most isolated places on earth. And since isolation and mystery go hand in hand, naturally the Easter Island ended up drawing a lot of attention, not only from archaeologists but from tourists as well. Rapa Nui can only be described as spellbinding, and it is one of those places that you can never forget, once you see them.

  • Bangalore is a Travel Budget Heaven

For those looking for a rich historical and cultural experience, the city of Bangalore in India is a sure fire bet. Bangalore is a well known, international city filled with incredible cultural sites, tons of budget accommodation options, and a night life that travelers rarely find in a destination that costs so little. In addition, because of the many students who attend the Indian Institute of Management, this is a fun, educated, and hip destination for any budget traveler.

Palace in BangaloreWhen going to Bangalore, expect to visit a lot of incredible gardens and parks. These have little to no entrance fees and are filled with culturally important old monuments. Bangalore is probably not at all what first time visitors to India expect to find as it is a thoroughly modern city with options for luxury hotels, five star dining, and no shortage of well developed tourist attractions.

  • Sacred and secret places in Egypt

    Oracle Temple, Siwa

When I think of Egypt, Cairo with its bazaars, restaurants and hotels is not the first thing that comes to my mind. The idea of Egypt as a travel destination, for me (and I’m sure for many of you as well), cannot be separated from the ancient and mysterious culture that has left its mark on the country.

The pyramids of Giza are among the first landmarks that a tourist visits in Egypt, and there are many more exquisite sacred sites that will take you back in time and make your imagination run wild. So after you’ve visited Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and the major relics of the Egyptian civilization, take a look at these less famous but equally compelling places.

  • Top 10 natural wonders of the world

    Bora Bora

Since we had a blogpost on man-made wonders of the world, I thought that we should pay our homages to mother nature as well, as write up a list of natural wonders as well. I’m not talking only about mountains, waterfall and such, but also amazing natural phenomena that we might not even completely understand yet.

There are so many natural wonders on the planet that it would be impossible to list them all, so we picked the most impressive/well known/ accessible of them.

  • Top 10 man-made wonders in the world

    Teotihuacan

We humans are a peculiar race. In only a couple of centuries, we managed to pollute our planet and cause global warming, but on the other hand we did some things that we can be proud of. We made scientific discoveries, we produced art, and all in all, we did have a few really amazing civilizations in our history. And when it comes to building things, we definitely proved that we have some talent and imagination. So here are the top ten most amazing man-made wonders in the world.

  • Amazing places: Kathmandu

    Kathmandu

    Kathmandu

Long time ago, travelers who wandered into Nepal came back with the conviction that they had found the famed Shangri-La, the symbol of an earthly paradise in the Orient. The place that they visited was actually Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital, and while these travelers might have been a little romantic and naive, they were right about the beauty of this exotic city.

Nowadays, Kathmandu is a magnet for indie travelers looking for something different, but there’s a little something in this city for everyone. It does feel like a place outside time, sometimes, but that only makes it all the more exciting.

  • Amazing places: Snowdonia, Wales

I remembered when I first heard about Snowdonia, and I was convinced that it was some kind of imaginary country in a story, or something similar. It sounded like some kind of country of eternal snow, with icy mountains, valleys, lakes and forests. Well, as it turned out, I was not that far from the truth. Snowdonia is a magical place indeed, although not as ice-covered as I thought when I was a kid. Visiting it is rather surreal though, like seeing a place that doesn’t really fit into the reality you’re used to.

A truly unique place, Snowdonia National Park is a great destination for those who like hiking and trekking in unusual (or unusually beautiful) places, and if you ask me, if the Lord of the Rings hadn’t been filmed in New Zealand, Snowdonia would have been an equally inspired choice.

  • Unlikely tourist destinations: Kazakhstan

Ever since Borat, that quite famous comedy movie about a Kazakh exploring America, hit the theaters, I think many people started to associated Kazakhstan with a backwards, underdeveloped country with not much in the way of culture, and where the western ‘morals’ are defied in every possible way. Obviously, this depiction is far from the truth.

Kazakhstan has never been a booming tourist destination, but for completely different reasons. Kazakhstan is a rich country with some amazing natural sites, although it doesn’t have yet a clearly defined national identity, nor any very exciting historical monuments. Still, it is one of the most fascinating countries in Central Asia, and a good starting place for any comprehensive exploration of these parts of the continent.

  • Discovering Havana off the beaten path

    Havana, the capital of Cuba

    Havana, the capital of Cuba

Cuba has been a very unlikely tourist destination in the past few decades (although before the Revolution it was quite popular with tourists), but things are picking up now for the Cuban tourist sector. European, Asian and even American tourists are flocking to Cuba in hundreds and thousands, which is no surprise, considering that Cuba is a paradise for beach-goers, scuba-divers and explorers of all kinds.

Cuba is an incredibly rich and fascinating country when it comes to its culture. Havana is the place where all the essence of the Cuban way of life is concentrated, so if you want more than the classic beaches and resorts out of your trip, here’s a list of what you can do and see in this amazing city.
