The simple geographic definition of cape, that is a body of land jutting into a body of water, can’t possibly describe the sheer beauty that many capes have. Cape Cod, for example, is one of the most beautiful places in the US, and it’s not the only cape that can boast of exceptional beauty and touristic potential.

You might not set out on a journey to visit the most beautiful capes in the world, but if you happen to be in the area, you will definitely enjoy visiting these places.

Cape Cornwall, UK

Cornwall is one of the jewels of the British countryside, with its rolling hills and jagged coastline. The windswept coasts of Cornwall are some of the best places for walks and hikes that you can find anywhere in the UK.

Cape Cornwall, four miles from the town of St. Just, is pristine and untouched by development, so with the exception of a small car park, it is completely wild and natural.

Cape of Good Hope, South Africa

The Cape of Good Hope was the discovered by a Portuguese explorer at the end of the 16th century, and got its name because it signaled the opening up of a new route to India and the East. The cape is rugged and has a very diverse flora and fauna (imagine seeing wild ostriches lazily walking on the beach), and it is an excellent place for whale watching.

Cape St. Vincent, Portugal

Cape St. Vincent is the southwesternmost tip of Portugal, located close to the small village of Sagres, and in the past it used to be an important ship-traveling landmark. The cliffs of the cape are 75 meter tall and rise almost vertically from the sea.

There are lots of legends about the cape, and there are even some prehistoric standing stones nearby. The cape has a quaint little lighthouse that is worth seeing.

Cape Greco, Cyprus

Nestled between two very popular tourist destinations, Ayia Napa and Protaras, Cape Greco naturally attracts a fair number of visitors. The cape is a protected nature park (so nature lovers will surely like it), and if you climb to the highest point of the cape you get to see some amazing views of the sea and the cliffs below.

Cape Horn, Chile

Located on the southern tip of the Isla de Hornos, part of the Chilean archipelago of Tierra del Fuego, Cape Horn is very close to being the southernmost place in South America.

For a long time, Cape Horn was a major milestone on the route of trading ships and clippers, and recreational sailors flock to the cape even today. The wild beauty of the cape and its two lighthouses make for a very interesting landscape.
