    Canada is a big country that lies on the northern part of of North America. It shares border only with the United States and it is the worlds longest (1,538 miles). Canada is one of the wealthiest country in the world and gained many times international awards for quality of life.

    The official and national languages are English and French. around 60% of citizens speak English and 30% French, while the rest 10% speak different kind of languages(Italian, Chinese, German and others). Regional languages like Chypewyan, Inuktitut, Cree, Inuinnaqtun and T???ch? are also recognized by the state.

    The capital is Ottawa yet the largest city is Toronto. Some Other important cities are the following:

    • Montreal. The city is named “The City of Design”. It is one of Canada’s top important of commerce, pharmaceuticals, culture, technology and others. The population is 1,649,519
    • Vancouver. One of Canada’s top cities for its quality of life, it is a highly livable and dynamic city filled with events. The population is 603,502
    • Quebec is the only fortified walled city(particularly the old town) in North America that is also recognized as a heritage site by UNESCO. The city is also unique because of its 17th century French architecture. The population of the city is 516,622

    Canada offers you many beautiful sights and is well known for having numerous ski resorts, natural parks and historic sights. Some examples sights:

    • Canadian Rocky Mountains. It is one of Canada’s top natural parks. Widely known for its glaciers, lakes, mountains, canyons, waterfalls, mountain peaks and limestone caves. Banff, Yoho, Jasper, Kootenay natural parks are part of the region as well as Mount Robson, Mount Assiniboine.
    • Nahanni National Park. The national park has one of the most scenic rivers on the continent. Huge waterfalls and canyons are common. The fauna is rich, being home to animals such as grizzly bears and caribou
    • Gros National Park is filled with fjords, glacial valleys, lowland, alpine plateaus and is known for its unusual continental drift.
    • Rideau Canal is the best preserved 19th century canal in North America. It connects the Rideau river with Lake Ontario and the distance is 202 km. Vessels are very common and when its totally freezed ice skating is popular on the canal.
    • Lunenburg is the best example of a 18th century British colonial settlement.
    • Whistler. Canada’s most famous ski resort, it is known for its winter sport activities during winter times and mountain biking and hiking in summer times.

    The climate of the country is very complex, ranging from Temperate and Oceanic to Subarctic and Arctic climate. The winters are exceptionally cold, the average  temperature of the weather being below -20 Celsius degrees. Fog is common.

    Canada’s topography is rich and diverse. More than thousands of lakes and rivers are in the country as well as mountains, highlands and cliffs. The arctic region consists hundreds of islands.

    The environment is relatively safe but still suffers issues like ocean contamination and damages of forests and lakes by acid rain.

    The vegetation of the country is vast, being heavily wooded. The most common trees are spruce, sugar maple, white pine and fir thrive. In parts such as Alberta and Saskatchewan fertile grasslands are also present. Huge trees such as Douglas Trees are frequent in British Columbia.

    The total population is 34,838,000. 48% of the country have both British and Irish ancestry, 16% French and 24% other(mainly Europeans and Asians).

    Canada, being a largely diverse state has many religions. Freedom of religion is granted and respected, thus Canada being a secular state. Christians 74%, Muslims 4%, Jews 1,1%, Hindus 1%, Buddhists 1% and others 1% are active in the country.

     

    The transportation and infrastructure is one of a kind and highly developed. It features extensive highways and Canada has everything from road and water to air transportation. The 80% of the roads are paved. The two most frequently used international airports are Toronto Pearson international and Vancouver International.

    Both airports are considered as one of the finest in the world. Toronto international is also the 23th busiest airports in the world as of 2014.

    The immigration and customs in Canada is very strict and organized. Visas are required for most foreign visitors. Food is the only prohibited import and species that are endangered requires an export certificate.

    Traveling within the country is very easy and relatively safe thanks to its excellent infrastructure and transportation. Unlike most former British colonies, the traffic is on the right.

    According to the “travel health” of the country, precautionary measures against diphtheria is recommended.

    The Brief History of Canada.

    Despite being a young country with short history, Canada still has a vast and rich background. The country was shaped both by the British and the French. The country was inhabited by different Indian tribes and other aboriginal peoples for almost a millennium until the arrival of the French and British in the 14th century.

    During the course of centuries, Canada faced many conflicts throughout the centuries and Great Britain with France achieved most parts from the northern territories of America in the 18th century. The 19th century, Canada, being a British Colony has highly increased both culturally and economically.

    The constitution of Act of Canada was established in 1867, being also one of the oldest in the world.

    In 1931 it achieved partial independence from the United Kingdom as a dominion and later on gained the Statute of Westminster in 1931.

    The final act( Canada act 1982) which halted the dependency of the United Kingdom was in 1982 but like Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and most Caribbean nation, Canada also retained Queen Elizabeth II as Monarch which still rules today.
