The Five Wonders of Las Vegas

Regardless to your artistic tastes, studies, age, marital status or nationality, Las Vegas is something you have to experience at least once in a lifetime. Some call it ‘Sin City’ and say it’s kitschy, promiscuous or superficial, others name their children after its resorts and would give anything just to have the chance to come back. Vegas wasn’t designated the ‘entertainment capital of the world’ with no reason: here you can watch the best comedy shows, see the most creative magicians and be part on the enormous on-going party that is Las Vegas itself. It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed when seeing Bellagio’s singing fountain, New York New York’s rollercoaster  or the Stratosphere Tower for the first time. Bellagio

Ever since the Bellagio adopted the name of the exclusivist Italian resort near Lake Como, it has always lived up to the standards. I have already mentioned the Fountains of Bellagio in the introduction of this article: their perfectly synchronized sequence of water jets and classical music has made the tour of the world. Just entering the atrium of Bellagio gives you a clue about why its name is always associated with the richest Hollywood celebrities – it hosts, between others, an indoor botanical garden and a famous modern art gallery.

Venetian

The recently restored Venetian is now the world’s biggest hotel. Its five-star hotel rooms, atriums and restaurants recreate the decadent style of Venice. It’s hard not to be captivated by the Venetian indoor water canal, where gondoliers invite you for a ride under the dim light of a permanent sunset.  The opening of the adjacent Palazzo and the approximately 50 night clubs contained within its perimeter do nothing but increase Venetian’s outrageous revenues.

Mirage

Those longing for the warm beaches of the Caribbean will be delighted to discover Mirage’s recreation of a tropical paradise. This four-star resort hosts within its walls a huge dolphin aquarium, a luxuriant tropical flower garden and a spectacular replica of an erupting volcano. 2009 has been an eventful year for the Mirage, who celebrated its 20^th anniversary with special rates and a bunch of exquisite events.

Wynn

One thing worth of mentioning is that most of the modern wonders I mentioned so far represent the creations of Steve Wynn, the visionary business man whom we owe more than half of what Vegas stands for. In 2005, Steve Wynn inaugurated his most ambitious plan so far, the state-of-the art, five-star Wynn Hotel and Casino.  Expensive sports cars and Van Gogh paintings are decorating the lobbies of Wynn, while fancy restaurants like Wynn Lure Ultra Lounge attract a VIP clientele.

New York New York

Although New York New York is neither the newest, nor the most luxurious hotel in Las Vegas, its Manhattan-like towers and surrounding rollercoaster can still be considered as innovative. With its crowded pubs, piano bars and trendy clubs, New York New York is especially frequented by young adults. The adult-only Cirque de Soleil representation and a famous collection of beer are some of New York New York strongest attributes.
