  • The best Safari tours in the world

Not all travelers are adventurous by nature, and some people simply don’t relish the thought of going off into the wild  just so they can experience what it is like. And that’s why Safari tours are so convenient for those who’d rather not risk getting eaten by a lion, but would still like to see the afore mentioned lion go about his or her  day.

While traditionally a safari implied hunting as well as sightseeing, nowadays the hunting part is thankfully skipped. Safari comes from a Swahili word meaning a long journey, and after all, that’s what it is: a long journey through the African wilderness. So grab your camera, some khaki clothes and a slouch hat, and embark on one of the most fascinating journeys you’ve ever experienced.

    Tanzania and Zanzibar

A tour through Tanzania and Zanzibar is great for beginners who want to take it slow and admire the wildlife and landscapes at their leisure. You can start at Arusha, in Tanzania, and then proceed to the amazing Serengeti National Park, one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world.

There are several parks and reserves in Serengeti, which means that you’ll get the chance to observe lots of animals in their natural habitat. There are approximately 70 species of large mammals in Serengeti, including the famous Serengeti lions, which you can see at the Simba Kopje (the place which inspired Disney’s The Lion King). Visit the Ngorogo Crater next and admire the zebras and wildebeests, follow up with Tarangire National Park and the take a tour of the island of Zanzibar.

    Amboseli and Masai Mara, Kenya

If you are more interested in wildlife than in landscapes (although there’s no lack of beautiful natural sights in Kenya, for example some spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro), a tour though Amboseli National Park is what you should look for. Amboseli is famous in Africa because it is the best place where you can get close to free-ranging elephants.

If you are interested in Masai culture, then there’s another thing you can look forward to, because some tours allow you to meet Masai people and learn about their customs and culture.Masai Mara Reserve is the largest game reserve in south-west Kenya, and you can see lots of big cats and their prey, like Thomson’s Gazelle and wildebeest. Also, the largest annual migration of zebras can be observed in this reserve.

    Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Gorillas are some of the most fascinating creatures you can encounter in Africa, and the best place to see them is the Volcanoes National Park. It’s the same reserve where the famous zoologist Dian Fossey conducted her research, and you can see mountain gorillas up close, and even ‘meet’ some of them.

Other interesting creatures you might see here are golden monkeys, friendly creatures who can be found only in the bamboo forests of Rwanda,  Uganda, and DRC. The monkeys are not bothered by onlookers, so you can really see what their lives are in the wild. You can also visit the volcanoes, and take a tour of the caves and lakes located in the park.
