Having fun and partying for days and nights on end can take their toll on your body and your mind, so what can you do to get back on your feet after the busy holiday season? Instead of lounging at home and watching travel documentaries, here’s a much more enjoyable way to rest – by traveling!
Of course, if you had a busy and exhausting December, maybe going on a backpacking trip is not the suitable plan for you – but going on a lazy vacation that entails only relaxing and enjoying life will do wonders to perk you up.
So if you are in need of an antidote for the post-New Year blues or if you just want to go somewhere and unwind, here are some of the best post-holiday trips to recharge your batteries.
Jasper, Canada
As the largest of Canada’s Rocky Mountain parks, Jasper National Park in Alberta has more postcard perfect views than one could count. No need to climb the Rockies to get the most out of a visit to the park – leisurely floating on a canoe, or taking some energizing walks in the woods is more than enough if you’re feeling lazy.
The small town of Jasper is the best base of exploration you could wish for – small, quiet and full of charm, with lots of small inns and bistros.
Turtle Bay, Hawaii
If you want to get away for it all and you can afford to splurge, then a few days at a private bungalow on the beach at Turtle Bay Resort will make you feel like new.
You won’t have to deal with the crowds that swarm over the best public beaches of Hawaii, and the only noise you’ll hear is the sound of the waves. Unless you can find a deserted tropical island to hide away at, this is the place the most relaxing beach holiday ever.
Grenada
If holing up at a luxury beach resort sounds like too much of a waste of money for you, then you can have the same soft sand and blue sea for far more affordable prices in Grenada, a small Caribbean island northeast of Venezuela. Grenada is usually less visited than other, larger Caribbean destinations, and has accommodation for every sort of budget.
Salzburg, Austria
Although many tourists flock to Austria’s historic cities in December to take advantage of Christmas markets and decorations, cities like Salzburg are just as pleasant after the holiday madness, and far more relaxing.
Without the crowds sightseeing and running after presents, Salzburg’s historic beauty reveals itself in its full splendor. Walk the streets, admire the sprinkling of snow on roofs, and take a Sound of the Music tour.

Lao PDR (People’s Democratic Republic), also fittingly nicknamed Lao Please Don’t Rush, it the very definition of a relaxing holiday destination, where a laid-back lifestyle is the tourist norm.
Of course, many backpackers to Laos choose an active holiday of trekking, hiking and exploring, but you can enjoy the lazy side of Laos by watching the sunset over the Mekong River at Luang Prabang, browsing through the night market and visiting quiet temples and monasteries.
