There’s something peaceful and dreamy yet at the same time exciting about watching a curtain of foamy water tumble from a great height, surrounded by serene scenery. Waterfalls have always been a source of fascination for humankind, and it’s enough to consider huge attractions like Niagara Falls to realize that people will go to great distances in order to see these wonders of nature.

Some waterfalls amaze their ‘audience’ thanks to their height, others with their picturesque configuration or the sheer volume of water flowing through them. Here are 5 stunning waterfalls to see before you die.

Sutherland Falls, South Island, New Zealand

Sutherland is believed to be one of the tallest waterfalls in New Zealand, and certainly one of the most spectacular as well. The 580 meter tall waterfall flows in three cascades, and it is located at the heart of the impressive Fiordland National Park surrounded by verdant scenery.

    Gullfoss, Iceland

Gullfoss is one of the  most unusual waterfalls on the planet, and one of the top attractions in Iceland, which is not a small feat in a country filled to the brim with natural wonders.

Gullfoss is formed by River Hvita, which takes a sharp turn to the left and plunges downward in an unusual three-step terrace, emptying into a deep crevice. From afar, it looks as if the river simply vanishes into the earth.

    Plitvice Waterfalls, Croatia

Plitvice lakes National Park has not one, but an entire network of waterfalls, one more enchanting than the other. The sixteen surface lakes in the park are arranged in cascades, and the countless waterfalls can be seen either from a distance, or up close thanks to many boardwalks that take you around, under or over them.

Needless to say, there is no one single waterfall that you should seen (although some of the waterfalls can easily compete with any of the major waterfalls in the world), and you should instead try to see them as a whole.

    Victoria Falls, Zambia/Zimbabwe

A waterfalls whose original name is the Smoke that Thunders cannot fail to be a treat for the eyes, and besides, Victoria Falls in the largest waterfall in the world with a flowrate of over a 1000 cubic meters of water per second. This wonder of the natural world is one of those staggering sights that remains etched in your  mind forever.

    Angel Falls, Venezuela

Angel Falls is the tallest waterfall in the world, dropping from almost 1000 meters from the top of the Auyantepui mountain in the Canaima National Park. The waterfalls has one main plunge, as well as scores of small cascades, and due to its height much of the water turns into mist before actually reaching the ground.

I’d say Iguaza falls [Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, Brazil) would be a good addition to your list.:) it consists of some 275 tiny waterfalls. Amazing!
