Samoa is an island nation halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii, with a population that could fill a medium-sized city. Small and still mysterious for good many travelers, Samoa has some of the most striking landscapes in the Pacific thanks to its volcanic origin, and a culture that is unique, enticing, and shocking for many.

The islands are lush and wild, surrounded by an aura of mystique that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson (quite a famous figure in Samoa, honored with the title of ‘teller of tales’) to write his famous adventure stories. Samoa is a place that inspires the traveler, and it’s difficult not to stay longer on the islands than you initially planned. Here are 5 amazing sights in Samoa, but these are merely the tip of the iceberg.

    Lake Lanoto’o

Lake Lanoto’o is not especially large, but it sure looks striking. The emerald green water of the lake reflects the surrounding tropical vegetation, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that made the lake the highlight of the natural park surrounding it. Lake Lanoto’o doesn’t get many foreign visitors, but it is a popular destination for Samoan travelers. An interesting thing about the lake is its huge population of goldfish, you might encounter them if you go for a swim.

f you are in the mood for an all-natural water park, then head to Papasee’a Sliding Rock, a 5 meter waterfall drop into a crystal blue jungle pool. The place is very popular with locals, and it’s not unusual to see people jumping from the rock and swimming in the pool.

There are three waterfalls that you can slide off, and since the water of the pool is deep enough, there is little or no danger involved. The climb from the pool back to the top of the waterfalls might be a bit difficult, but every minute of it is worth it.

    O Le Pupu-Pu’e National Park

This 2800 hectare national park is the home of amazing and endangered species, and it can boast of some of the most stunning views in Samoa. Hike through the dense rainforest to Pe’ape’a Cave, a mossy lava tube, and from there you can make your way to Ofa Waterfall (but since the trek takes days and the path is often very overgrown, it’s best to hire a guide). O Le Pupu Lava Coast is a must-see as well.

    Savaii Blowholes, Taga

Taga village is a very interesting place to visit not only because it affords great cultural experiences, but also because it is near the spectacular blowholes of Savaii.

The explosion of water forced by sea currents up lava tubes is really something to see, and this entire natural wonder is a collective property of the village and a source of local revenue.

    Lalomanu Beach

Lalomanu is the ultimate beach paradise, considered to be one of the finest beaches in the Pacific. This is the kind of place that can fulfill all your dreams of lounging on powdery white sand under the shade of palm trees, snorkeling in transparent water, and looking out into the lagoon to three smaller islands.
