  • The most beautiful cliff diving spots in the world

    Acapulco

    Acapulco

The list of adrenaline-raising, potentially life threatening and utterly crazy extreme sports seems to be getting longer every year, but a would-be adventurer can always return to old classics that were popular before everything else requiring hi-tech equipment.

Jumping off a cliff is one of the simplest things a traveler can do, and not even because the hotel had bad service or food, but rather for the sheer fun of it.

Cliff diving is one of the most dangerous sports in the world, but it has been practiced by people for centuries, and it even has a world federation today. But as much fun as cliff diving can be, it is always better when you find a stunning location for your death defying act. Here are some of the most beautiful cliff diving spots in the world.

     La Quebrada Cliffs, Acapulco, Mexico

La Quebrada Cliffs are one of the major tourist attractions in Acapulco, where travelers come to eat at the restaurant near the cliffs while watching cliff divers jump into the water from the top of the 35 meter cliffs. The jump is no piece of cake and divers must be very careful to calculate the exact moment when they jump, so as to catch a wave, otherwise they would smash into the rocks. Most of the divers are part of the La Quebrada Cliff Divers, a group of professional divers.

    Rick’s Cafe, Negril, Jamaica

Around Negril in Jamaica there are many cliffs that are great spots for jumping, with varying heights and levels of difficulty. The most popular spot in the area is Rick’s Cafe, a great little local hangout, where people come for more than just the coffee and sandwiches.

There are three jumping points, the highest at 12 meters, and while the jump is pretty exciting, the climb up the cliff face is no walk in the park either.

    Kamari Beach, Santorini, Greece

Santorini island in Greece has plenty of hair raising jumps that would make many would-be jumpers balk. The most impressive and most doable jump on the island is on Kamari Beach, from 11 meter tall cliffs, into water deep enough to cushion the fall. Since the cliffs are not overly tall and the water is calm and deep, the jump is perfect even for beginners.

    Falkenstein, Wolfgangsee, Austria

Wolfgangsee is surrounded by amazing cliffs, and there are loads of perches that make great cliff diving spots, but the craziest jump is one cliff in particular called the Falkenstein.

The 30 meter tall cliff is not for beginners, although the jump is made somewhat easier by the wooden board fitted on top.

South Point Cliffs, Big Island, Hawaii

Cliff diving on the Big Island has a long tradition, dating back to the 18th century when jumping off these cliffs was seen as a test of courage. The view is gorgeous, but the jump is quite dangerous, and even if you reach the water safely, the currents can bash you into the rocks or carry you off. But if you’re not at your first jump, taking the plunge at one of the original diving spots is pretty dangerous.
