    Tenerife

A family holiday offers the perfect chance to relax, press the pause button on everyday life and simply spend some quality time together. And if you’re looking for the perfect destination, Spain can’t be beaten for the endless amount of things to do, wonderful weather and child-friendly atmosphere.

With this in mind, we’ve put together our top five family destinations across in Spain. All you have to do is decide where to go, pack up your family and, well, maybe book a ticket to Spain, but it really dues worth it as you will hopefully see below. Have you ever been to Spain or it is on your wishlist? Let us know in the comment section below.

    Tenerife

For those looking for plenty to do, Tenerife has to be the ultimate destination for fun and thrills. Head to Almaciga for a beach day with a twist (the sand is a dramatic black), and the local zoo is a must-see for the spectacular birds of prey and resident tigers. Go-karting and watersports are also great for the more adventurous traveller.

For accommodation, one of the many hotels is an option but they can be a little bland, alternatively, there are plenty of villas in Spain and the surrounding islands, so consider this for a more unique and personal break.

    Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol, or the sunshine coast, has to be one of the best beach destinations out there. For thrill-seekers, Torremolinos offers everything from pedal boats to water skiing, alongside the biggest water park in Andalucía. For a quieter time, the town of Nerja has sleepy beaches and plenty of authentic restaurants to get your teeth into, alongside a wonderful cookery school. Get ready to impress with your new cooking skills!

    Menorca

If you’re looking for complete relaxation, Menorca is the place to head. This quiet island is traditionally more laid back than its Balearic cousins, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. Take a trip to the Roman ruins in the north for a glimpse of life on Menorca hundreds of years ago, while making sure to fit in one of the many morning markets at least once. Here you’ll find the freshest fish and finest local produce – they really can’t be bettered.

    Lanzarote

For anyone keen to escape the concrete jungle and get back to nature, Lanzarote offers plenty of ways to do so. Timanfaya National Park is a great way of exploring the island’s wild side, with a volcanic landscape and dramatic coach tour that’ll soon get your heart pumping. Camel riding is great for those with younger children, and for a more grown-up time take a boat ride into the spectacular Jameos del Agua caves.

    Majorca

If you’re travelling with a mix of ages, Majorca is sure to keep everyone happy. Wear out lively children on one of the many hiking trails dotted around the island, with Serra de Tramuntana offering some particularly beautiful views.

Adults and older children may wish to try out one of the many 18-hole golf courses that Majorca is famous for, while for shopping, Palma (the island’s capital) cannot be beaten for its mix of high-street Spanish stores and unique market stalls.

Wherever you end up on your family holiday, finding the right accommodation is vital to ensuring that you have the best break possible. Villa holidays are a great option for families looking for the perfect getaway, since aside from their often-superior quality (no more cramped hotel rooms for you!), they allow you to create your dream holiday exactly as you’d like it.

Staying in villas is the perfect option for those who want to live on their own schedule, as it affords you total privacy and the chance to eat, drink and sleep exactly when you want. Better still, the added privacy and the fact that you don’t have to worry about other guests is perfect for those with energetic children or noisy teenagers.
