Top 5 things to do in Belize
With its long Caribbean coast and interesting mix of cultures, Belize is not a tourist destination that anyone could complain about. Natural attractions and wildlife abound in Belize, the beaches are lovely, the Maya ruins mysterious and the people are friendly and welcoming. When it comes to things to see, you can’t get bored easily in this Central American country, but what about more active travelers who can’t stand to sit still even for a second?
Luckily, Belize is a great destination for adventure travel, and whichever is the adrenaline-inducing activity of your choice, you will most likely find plenty of opportunities for it in this country. Here are the top 5 things to in Belize, among the many.
Cave Exploring
Amateur or more serious speleologists should head to the Cayo district, whose limestone hills have more tunnels and caverns than a chunk of Swiss cheese.
The vast network of underground caves, rivers, waterfalls and sinkholes are nothing if not magnificent, and for the Maya these underground palaces had huge spiritual importance, so in some caves you can see intact artifacts.
Sport fishing
Fishing might not be considered the most physically exhaustive activity (although anyone who has spent long hours battling with a big fish will tell you otherwise), but if you have a soft spot for it, then you can try your hand at catching bonefish, one of the strongest fish in the world, which can be found in great numbers in Belize’s shallows.
Snorkeling and scuba diving
Belize is one of the world’s premier destinations for those who like to explore the wonders of the underwater world. There are many excellent diving spots along the coast of Belize, and there are lots of operators offering diving excursions.
Hol Chan marine reserve and Shark Ray Alley are must see destinations, but beaches like Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker also have great spots. The Great Blue Hole in the center of Lighthouse Reef is one of the most amazing diving spots in the world, and even if it can be expensive, a trip there is worth every cent.
Zip Lining
It would take ages to properly explore the ancient rainforests of Belize, so what not take a good look at them from above? Zip lining in organized tours involves a hike to a base where you are given instructions on how to use the zip lining equipment (great for those who are zip lining for the first time). Nothing can match the panoramic views when you’re suspended hundreds of feet above the jungle!

If you look at an aerial imagine of Actun Loch Tunich sink hole, it will look like a circular piece of the jungle just decided to suddenly sink. You can abseil to the bottom of this 300 foot deep hole and experience some of the biggest adrenaline rushes in your life. The return hike will be no mean feat either.
