  • The most fashionable cities in the world

Rome, Via Condotti, photo by GabrieleThe fashion industry has gone global a long time ago, but although you can find brand shops and haute couture is many of the big cities of the planet, everyone with even a fleeting interest in fashion knows that some cities are bona fide fashion hotspots, while others are just your run of the mill cities full of well dressed people.

If you couldn’t care less about fashion, there are still reasons for you to visit some of the most fashionable cities in the world, so even if you don’t want to spend a fortune on a designer scarf you can spend your time visiting glitzy street lined with elegant shops, or watch the fashionable crowd pass you by while lounging in a nice sidewalk cafe, taking a break from sightseeing.

    New York, USA

    New York

According to findings of Global Language Monitor, a company who makes annual ratings of the most fashionable cities in the world, New York is again at the top of the list in 2011. The Big Apple is famous for its intensely fashion conscious inhabitants, and the most touristy neighborhoods of the city are full of shops and designer’s ateliers.

Besides, New York has plenty of other attractions to offer: parks, huge museums, international cuisine and much more.

    Rome, Italy

Europe’s preoccupation with fashion is obvious, considering that London, Paris or Milan are considered to be extremely fashionable. But the true king of fashion in Europe is old Rome, the city of seven hills and magnificent ruins. Take a walk on the busy Via Condotti for some window shopping (or actual shopping) and then head out and explore one of the most historical cities on the continent.

    Tokyo, Japan

    Tokyo

There’s no end to the things you can do in Tokyo: eat the best sushi in the world, visit majestic temples or castles, slurp noodles in quaint neighborhood bars or get lost in the city’s boisterous nightlife.

And while at it, take a tour of Omotesando and its flagship fashion shops, elegant Ginza, Daikanyama and its elegant boutiques or Harajuku and its quirky street fashion.

    Hong Kong

Busting Hong Kong is has become the most fashionable South-Asian city, and if you can take your eyes off the ultra-modern high rise buildings that never seem to sleep, you will discover that the inhabitants invested just as much energy in their looks as in their architecture. If you get tired of the crowds, get out of the city into the picturesque rural areas with tall mountains and rocky islands.

    Johannesburg, South Africa

    Johannesburg

Johannesburg is a city of contrasts, with population either well above or well below the poverty line, so if any city can do glitz, then Johannesburg does it exquisitely.

This green city has countless museums and galleries and activities to offer to visitors, but there are equally many fashion shops and venues for various fashion events.
