erato in Fun and Travel | NO COMMENTSCarry on… staying in the UK
The image of Charles Hawtrey, Bernard Bresslaw and Sid James driving into a campsite to witness Barbara Windsor and company practicing their aerobics may be a blast from British comedy’s iconic past, but there remain many excellent reasons to ‘carry on camping’ in the UK and in particular, the south-western corner of the country.
From the quaint country villages and unspoilt verdant countryside of the Cotswolds, Somerset and Hampshire, to the glorious coastal resorts of Dorset, the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the charm, majesty and excitement of Cornwall, south-west England is an area that is truly blessed as a holiday destination. A wealth of exciting opportunities lies in wait for anybody willing to explore this part of the country in a little more depth.
Caravan Campings
Of course, for many holidaymakers, while the beauty of the surroundings, warmth and friendliness of the locals and the outstanding range of amenities available in the area is indisputable, the well-worn caveat is that the unreliable British weather could potentially put a dampener on any break in the UK.
Certainly, if you consider the past, when Carry on Camping was all the rage and when typical holiday caravans did not have their own electrical source (and when campsites were little more than fallow farmers’ fields), this is a criticism that had a degree of truth. Who wanted to spend a week or more of their hard-earned summer holidays being rained upon, even with Barbara Windsor and friends camping close by?
Nowadays though, staying in the UK is a more alluring proposition, whatever the weather. An important reason for this change is the development of luxurious parks which not only cater for camping and caravanning guests, but also offer their own variety of holiday apartments, lodges and chalet’s for their guests to rent throughout the year.
It is important to understand that these parks are much more than merely a few fields that have been wired up to provide electricity to a few holiday lodges and homes, plus space for a few caravans on site, offering many more benefits. Indeed, many argue that they have become one of the major reasons why areas like the south-west continue to attract such a large number of visitors each year.
These luxurious leisure parks are less like a traditional Carry on Camping site, and are more akin to an exclusive country club in terms of the services they provide. Not only are the various types of accommodation set amidst the lush countryside, they are fully equipped to offer guests the highest levels of comfort. Additionally, accommodation is available in a variety of sizes ranging from larger chalets that can cope with up to two families living together; to quieter more secluded apartments for two.
Caravan pitches are also given considerable space to afford users more privacy and an ample plot to pitch an awning. There’s no need to worry about your car becoming bogged down in the mud as each pitch comes with its own specially designed tarmac car parking space and each caravan has access to its own electrical socket.
Accommodation, caravan services and much more
It is more than simply the improvement in accommodation and caravan services that have made people carry on camping and staying in the UK though. Equally important is that many of the top parks now offer superb facilities to keep their visitors entertained, regardless of the weather.
Many of the top parks offer a huge range of outdoor and indoor activities, ranging from kids and teens clubs, cabaret and bingo evenings, magician shows, sports tournaments, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, adventure play areas and much more. Indeed, for many people, experiencing the beauty of the local area becomes something of a secondary issue as they explore the vast range of opportunities that awaits them on site.
