  • The best beach towns in the US

If you are planning to spend your summer holiday at the beach, you are probably wondering where exactly to go. Of course, the most important factor is deciding your destination is the quality of the beach, but that’s not all – you need to pick a suitably pleasant town or city as well.

Beach towns are known to be accommodating the needs of tourists, but naturally, some are better than the other. If you are searching for the perfect destination for your summer holiday, here’s a list of some of the best beach towns in the US.

    Boca Grande, Florida

The Gulf of Mexico is home to some of the most pristine and fun beaches in the US, but little towns like Boca Grande make the experience so much better. The beaches are long and quiet, and the town itself is scenic, and almost quaint, with street names such as Damnificare and a lighthouse that every newcomer to the town should visit.

There are several inns and hotels in the area, some more elaborate (golf courses included) than others, and a couple of really good restaurants.

    Chincoteague, Virginia

Chincoteague is a very small island off the coast of Virginia, and virtually the embodiment of serenity. This is the perfect destination for any sort of getaway – a few days here and you’ll be cured of all the ills of civilization.

The beaches on the island are a refuge for all sorts of creatures such as wild ponies, foxes, herons or woodpeckers. Accommodation comes mainly in the form of stately Victorian homes converted into inns.

    Lubec, Maine

This small town near the Canadian border is resplendent with Victorian and Greek revival pomp, especially the old city center. In addition to that, you also get almost 100 miles of pristine coastline, two lighthouses and friendly neighborhood pubs where they serve some of the best fish chowder in the entire state.

    Gearhart, Oregon

Although the nearby Cannon Beach has far more visitors, Gearhart is the favorite haunt of people in search of some peace and quiet, but also those who are interested in antiques (there are quite a few very good antique shops in Gearhart). Although there are many nice cafes in town, many people prefer to spend their evening on the sand, stargazing and having some wine.

    Rehoboth, Delaware

Rehoboth is a classic American beach town which doesn’t seem to have change too much in the past few decades.

You can get saltwater taffy and ice cream scoops near the beach, visit art galleries, dance in the evening at places with names like the Rusty Rudder or just take a walk on the beach.
